  • Provide analysis engineering support to the Aft Structures element of the Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) Flight Vehicle Integrated Product Team (IPT). Specifically, the analysis engineering effort will be for the Thrust Structure Integrated layout and associated engineering dataset releases.

  • Work independently to perform strength, stress, fatigue, and fracture analyses, optimization, and sizing using hand calcs and finite element modeling techniques including tools such as NASTRAN/PATRAN/ABAQUS to develop products and other engineering deliverables for engineering release.

  • Deliver primary and secondary structures analysis products demonstrating the maturation of the configuration to meet PDLP / C-NRPD layout process criteria in alignment with the schedule below.

Supplier shall report status of design products to Aft Structures element manager and EUS program management as needed, but at minimum during weekly element tag-up


  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field with no less than 2 years experience. Prefer 5-10 or greater

  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD)

  • Experience with Nastran/Pastran/Abacus

  • Prior experience drafting or designing mechanical components

  • Experience with Additive Manufacturing and/or 3D Printing

  • Previous Aerospace experience

Boeing's Space & Launch Engineering team is seeking an Associate Structures Design Engineer to join our team in Huntsville, AL or New Orleans, LA. NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) provides a critical heavy-lift capability, powering people and cargo to/beyond our moon and into deep space. SLS launches larger payloads farther in our solar system, faster than ever before possible. It will be the most powerful rocket ever built, enabling diverse exploration, science and security missions. Boeing is the prime contractor for the design, development, test and production of the launch vehicle cryogenic stages, as well as development of the avionics suite. This position is for a design engineer to join our SLS Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) Team to enable NASA to send large co-manifested payloads and along with an astronaut crew back to the Lunar Surface to support the overall Artemis Program. Position Responsibilities: * Design & Integration of space flight hardware designs for NASA's Space Launch Systems, Core Stage and/or Exploration Upper Stage (EUS). * Develop designs for primary & secondary structures that meet structural and integration requirements using 3-D Computer Aided design tools & other methods to provide product definition to other engineering teams, suppliers and production operations through the product lifecycle. * Support supplier development, test & production activities as required to ensure components that integrate with designs meet overall system/vehicle requirements. * Support/Lead layout activities to mature designs through the development lifecycle and that all stakeholders inputs/requirements are considered in design (Producibility, Cost, Production Efficiency, etc). * Develop new design/analysis processes/tools as applicable to improve effectiveness, quality & efficiency. * Develop datasets (Drawings, Model Based Definition, etc) to communicate engineering requirements & deliverables to stakeholders & customers. * Production support is also performed if/as required. * Some travel will be possible during the program development lifecycle to support the production facility in New Orleans, test houses and suppliers in various states. Work Authorization: This position requires ability to obtain program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only. This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility. Access to the facility requires a background investigation by U.S. Government. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): * Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. * Experience with mechanical / structural design & development of engineering products in Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): * Bachelors degree of higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Discipline. * Experience with CREO 3D-CAD Software. * Experience with Space or launch or aircraft. * Experience with NASA or Air Force programs. Typical Education/Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master).
