Position Overview

The Department of Corrections Office of Affirmative Action seeks an Executive II Affirmative Action Officer. The successful candidate will join our expanding team of civil rights professionals working to protect employee rights and support a safe and inclusive workplace. The Office of Affirmative Action manages disability, discrimination, sexual harassment matters referred by the EEOC, Department of Labor, and IDHR. You will have an opportunity to apply your energy, curiosity, and analytic abilities to the complex tasks of investigations, fact-finding, and recommendations for Agency positions and responses. Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and processes confidential complaints of discrimination or harassment with state and federal agencies.

  • Travels and represents the Department during fact-finding and conciliation conference.

  • Prepares and maintains a log of statewide complaints and prepares reports on status for management.

  • Coordinates the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for the region.

  • Travels to conduct training workshops and seminars to Executive Staff, Affirmative Action staff, employees relative to the Affirmative Action plan, Title VI and VII.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college preferably with courses in business or public administration.

  • Requires two (2) years of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefers at least two (2) years researching, writing, or reviewing issues involving discrimination, harassment, and sexual harassment laws and regulations.

Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in conducting interviews and investigations in Corrections or similar related work environments.

Prefers at least two (2) years of experience researching and writing reports in regard to discrimination and/or sexual harassment.

Prefers at least two (2) years of experience writing and defending detailed reports in regard to discrimination and/or sexual harassment claims.

Prefers at least two (2) years' experience reviewing, conducting, and/or analyzing administrative proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Illinois Department of Human Rights, or similar oversight agency.

Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in recruiting and outreach to under-represented communities.

Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with employee assistance programs or other programs that support employees in crisis.

Conditions of Employment

Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.

Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.

Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
