Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Parents as Teachers Coordinator, certified Parent Educators strengthen families of young children (prenatal to Kindergarten Entry) by providing parent education through home visits, developmental screenings, group connections, and resource referrals. This parent education is delivered according to Parents as Teachers guidelines and curricula. A core belief of the Parents as Teachers Program is that parents are their child's first and best teachers. Parent Educators are expected to manage their time in such a way as to deliver maximum services, complete paperwork promptly, maintain required records, participate in staff meetings and professional development, and assist with the recruitment of St. Louis City residents with children ages prenatal - Kindergarten entry.
Essential Functions:
Private Visits: Provide parent education to families in the context of private visits, implementing the Parents as Teachers Foundational Curriculum, delivering services according to the Parents as Teachers model fidelity and DESE guidelines
Schedule, plan, and conduct private visits with families in the home or another agreed-upon location.
Assess family needs and provide developmentally appropriate information, guidance, and support to parents
Caseloads and frequency of services are determined at the discretion of program leadership
Conduct virtual Private Visits when necessary
Screenings: Complete developmental screenings for age-eligible children
Administer the ASQ-3, ASQSE-2, DIAL-4, and basic health, hearing, vision, and dental checks appropriate to the age of the child
Summarize screening and share results with parent/guardian
Provide educational activities and referrals related to screening results as appropriate
Refer parents to appropriate agencies to assist with issues that have been identified during a private visit or developmental screening
Group Connections
Schedule, plan, and conduct group meetings for teen parents and community families
Assist with planning and execution of group connections
Coordinate services with other community programs offering services to parents and their young children
Record Keeping
Professional Development
Maintain certification as a Parent Educator through the PAT National Center and DESE
Attend in-services and other program-related professional development to satisfy certification requirements and enhance professional skills
Attend monthly staff meetings
Participate in monthly reflective supervision with the PAT/PIIP Coordinator
Attend out-of-town conferences
Confidentiality
Maintain confidentiality of all records and info about families and children
Maintain all required releases of information
Function as a mandated reporter
Public Relations
Answer routine questions about Parents as Teachers (PAT) and other related ECE programs of SLPS
Represent PAT at various community events supporting families and/or young children
Provide information and program materials to individuals or organizations to publicize program offering
Must have reliable daily transportation
Perform other duties as they pertains to Parents as Teachers assigned by the program leadership

Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle
Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body

Working Conditions and Environment:
Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment
Very limited or no exposure to physical risk
