Support the NASA Launch Services Program (LSP), as an Aerospace Contamination Control Engineer on the Expendable Launch Vehicle Integrated Support (ELVIS 3) contract.

  • Provide oversight and execute contamination control processes and procedures - from design phase through launch processing - to meet spacecraft requirements.

  • Track and analyze environmental, material, and process related contamination concerns for spacecraft.

  • Maintain communication with NASA, spacecraft, and launch vehicle contractor engineers to ensure mission success.

  • Review and understand launch vehicle contractor processes, work orders, and procedures.

  • Evaluate, formulate, and present at NASA Engineering Review Boards (ERB's) any contamination control concerns that affect future missions.

  • Perform facility walkdowns and hardware inspections; intervene when needed to address contamination related anomaly resolution.

  • Provide guidance and expertise for spacecraft integration, ground support equipment, and other launch vehicle and spacecraft activities.

  • Provide engineering oversight of cleanroom operations and protocols.

  • Actively participate and contribute to NASA readiness reviews and launch operations at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) and Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB) facilities.

  • Coordinate integration and documentation of contamination requirements through development and preflight preparation of assigned systems and/or payloads.

  • Perform interface control document (ICD) verifications.

  • Develop, review, and coordinate program contamination control plans, test plans, procedures, personnel cleanroom training, and material and process specifications.

Candidate will support the ELVIS 3 contract performing a wide array of engineering tasks associated with launch vehicle and spacecraft systems.

The ideal candidate will possess the following traits:

  • Familiarity with a variety of aerospace materials and process engineering subject areas such as metals, composites, adhesives, bonding, cleaning, failure analysis, manufacturing operations and related quality control concepts.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle both small and large projects.

  • The ability to quickly connect in-person and in writing, and to actively listen and perceive the needs, values, or opinions of others.

  • Demonstrated leadership accomplishments, either professionally or personally.

  • An aptitude for identifying and addressing challenges.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Physics, Material Sciences and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related aerospace background or field of study.

  • 5+ years of experience in clean rooms, contamination control, analysis, and spacecraft integration or related support.

  • The candidate must be dependable, self-motivated, have good communication and interpersonal skills, good computer skills, and be familiar with standard Microsoft applications and Windows OS.

  • The candidate must be willing to travel occasionally as required

  • Able to pass National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Desired Qualifications:

  • A thorough understanding of the full launch vehicle/payload mission life cycle is a plus

Target Salary Range

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
