The Pratt & Whitney Aero Thermal Fluids has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an experienced Aero Thermal Engineer to support the propulsion system thermal integration. Strong heat transfer and fluid dynamics background needed along with experience in system integration. A working knowledge of CFD design tools is required to provide a fundamental understanding of complex flow fields and to inform system level network solvers with more robust loss characteristics and thermal models with more representative boundary conditions. Experience in FAR33 and FAR25 cooling and ventilation certification process along with heat exchanger design, sizing and system integration is desirable. Experience with aircraft integration systems including environmental control and anti-ice would be ideal.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and modeling ventilation systems for commercial and military jet engines from concept initiation to product implementation.

  • Lead cross functional team to manage and integrate propulsion system thermal demands and cooling requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors' Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • Minimum of 6 years of thermal design or system integration experience required.

  • US Citizenship is required due to Government contract.

  • Ability to obtain security clearance is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master s' Degree or PhD preferred.

  • Strong background in fluid dynamics, heat transfer.

  • Good communication and presentation skills.

  • Previous experience in an Engine development / Certification program, and experience with Nacelles, Externals or Aircraft interfaces is a plus.

  • Prior team leadership experience desired.

We have an exciting and challenging opportunity for an Associate Director - Aero Thermal Methods in Pratt & Whitney's Aero Thermal Fluids organization (ATF). ATF is seeking dynamic and dedicated engineers and leaders with creativity, drive and a desire to see their ideas become a reality. We strive to exceed the expectations of our customers and also the expectations of our employees. In this role as Associate Director, you will be the leader of the aero-thermal methods group. You will report to the director of aero-thermal fluids for hot section engineering (diffuser, combustor, turbine, heat transfer & secondary flow). Responsibilities include: * Definition of methods roadmap to acquire state-of-art capability required to ensure P&W competitiveness. * Actively maintain competitive capability benchmarks for industry competitors and vendors. * Advance the level of knowledge within the aero-thermal methods discipline. * Lead the aero-thermal methods department in the development and advancement of processes, tools, and methods for the aerodynamics and thermal disciplines. * Develop strategy and tactics for integration of aero-thermal tools and processes across the P&W value stream to achieve maximum impact and value. * Develop and integrate automation and optimization into the analysis and design process. * Support product design teams to ensure prompt resolution of technical issues with tools/methods. * Align aero-thermal methods roadmap across PW-PWC-PWPR sites. * Supervision of department staff. * Communicate with leadership and win support of senior management for complex technical plans. * There is 10% domestic and international travel associated with this role. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. * Minimum 10 years' experience in aero-thermal design & development of gas turbine components and/or aero-thermal methods development. * U.S Citizenship is required due to Government contracts. Preferred Qualifications: * Advanced Degree in Engineering. * Strong communication and leadership skills. * Supervisory/people management experience. * Tool development and sustainment experience.
