Aerial Lineman

The role of an Aerial Lineman is a specially trained employee who has expertise in the construction and repair of overhead plant or RF/ Fiber lines. The Lineman also has extensive training in specialty equipment to service these overhead projects. A Lineman will also have an extensive and practical knowledge of the RF and Fiber network makeup, its operation and network assets for troubleshooting and repair as well as new construction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Safely operate a boom truck, climb poles as needed, and utilize standard tools of the trade.

• Pull coax through existing duct package, pull cable through conduit either manually, blowing, or mechanically, and splice and activate underground and aerial lines.

• Construction and repair of overhead RF and Fiber service.

• Understand how to read and construct a design schematic of map.

• Understand all inventory and equipment required for these projects.

• Underground work as needed and directed and as trained.

• Take instructions from Foreman.

• Work in a team environment.

• First responder during storms and emergency OSP plant restoration.

• Proficient in bucket truck operation.

• Must be able to climb poles.

• Assist in training and advancing performance of aerial ground hand.

Education and/or Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Must pass a D.O.T. physical & drug screening.

• Have a current Drivers license and clean driving record.

• Proficient in bucket truck operation.

• Advance knowledge of NESC, governing regulatory and contractual requirements for aerial placement.

• Advance knowledge of equipment.

• Able to use a shovel and post hole digger.

• Able to work out in the elements (heat, cold, rain, etc.)

• Ability to work at heights up to 50.

• Must be able to climb poles.

• Sitting, standing, and walking.

• Lifting up to 75 pounds several times a day.

• Overhead lifting of over 20 pounds.

• Bending, stooping, climbing ladders and crawling.

• Long hours involving overtime and weekends as necessary.

• Ability to read effectively from a computer screen, sampling device and/or a paper copy.

• Ability to work multiple tasks in a stressful environment while maintaining a positive and pleasant manner with others.

• Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced office environment.

• Ability to travel up to 20%.

• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
