Location: Raleigh office, M & F: remote, T-Th: in office

Job Summary:

The A&E Designer III is responsible for completing construction drawings for telecommunication projects accurately and on time. This role involves quality control, ensuring the feasibility and accuracy of proposed work, and collaborating with senior staff to address or communicate alternatives to project management. The A&E Designer III will also perform production CAD tasks as needed, manage workflow and client expectations, and participate in employee development and training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Convert field notes, architectural plans, engineering sketches, and other designs into working construction drawings using AutoCAD according to customer specifications.

  • Responsible for revising construction drawings per customer and internal redlines.

  • Maintain familiarity with individual client requirements and adapt to the client preferences and needs.

  • Collaborate with Structural and A&E teams to prepare, draft, and review A&E drawings.

  • Execute moderate to advanced CAD tasks to support construction drawings for zoning purposes.

  • Perform detailed checks and redline work performed on projects.

  • Lead projects by managing timelines and ensuring quality of deliverables for medium to large sized projects, with support from the Engineering Manager and A&E Manager.

  • Collaborate with A&E Manager to develop new templates, tool palettes, macros, LISPs, and other time-saving tools and processes.

  • Participate in development of and execution of training programs for new hires in their respective areas of expertise.

  • Maintain accurate project status tracking to support effective project management reporting.

  • Perform site visits as needed to document field conditions for new sites and site modification projects.

  • Minimal travel, less than 5%

Physical Demands

  • Work is primarily non-manual work which is sedentary in nature.

  • Must be able to communicate information effectively and read, understand, and interpret construction and architectural drawings.

  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.

  • Ability to move about the office to access office machinery, attend meetings, etc.

  • Must be able to operate a computer and all required programs.

  • Occasional moving of office supplies up to 10 pounds.

  • Occasional field work which may require the worker to be exposed to fluctuating weather conditions.

  • Ability to open locks, open / close gates and door.

  • Ability to ascend a ladder to obtain measurements, pictures, etc.

Skills and Abilities Required

  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation) and familiarity with other design tools.

  • Ability to independently review both technical and non-technical aspects of field work and construction drawings.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD functions, including paper space/model space, scaled viewports, blocks, text fields, dynamic blocks, libraries, and templates.

  • Technically proficient, with experience using typical office systems such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, Teams) and project management software.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external customers in a team environment.

  • Requires basic mathematics skills and moderate spatial reasoning abilities.

  • Ability to set priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to efficiently multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to sketch site layout and surrounding areas, and to read and take measurements.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.

Education and Experience Required

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in telecom A&E design, engineering, or other closely related field.

  • Associate degree in architecture, Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field preferred.
