Title: Advisor and Student Support Specialist

The School of Nursing and Health Professions Advisor and Student Support Specialist supports the work of the department, students, Dean, and University. The role serves as a student advisor for the School of Nursing and Health Professions. This position provides support in the areas of student progression tracking, student schedules, program requirements, and acts as a liaison between departments on campus. The Advisor and Student Support Specialist meets regularly with students to support their academic goals and collaborates regularly with department faculty, staff, and administration.
Direct Report to: Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions
Advising Support
Advising all categories of SNHP students such as traditional or transfer BSN students and internal transfer BSN students.
Progression plan creation and review upon admission and each semester prior to registration and as needed utilizing progression guidelines. Ensuring all transfer credits and transcripts have been evaluated and are up to date in the program eval.
Adjust students' Progression Plan as needed, e.g. Leave of Absences, course failures, withdrawals, change of major etc.
Identifying at risk students during routine advising and referring to appropriate personnel.
Reviews graduation clearance for each graduate.
Works with SNHP Program Managers to implement course substitutions and equivalents for academic courses.
Follow up with students and submit reports to SNHP Program Managers.
Monitor ongoing cumulative & within the major GPA status of all undergraduate SNHP students.
Submit reports of students that are at risk of probation or on probation per student handbook to the program managers, faculty advisor, SNHP faculty/administrative staff, Dean/Associate Dean.
Coordinate directly with SNHP program manager to determine courses available for each semester and progression needs (class cohorts, leave of absences, students out of progression/curricular sequence, etc.)
Assist with undergraduate SNHP registration according to block schedules/progression plans.
Audit student enrollments after each registration period to ensure all students are registered correctly according to block schedule.
Serve on relevant advising and program committees at the SNHP (FAAW meetings, and select faculty committee meetings)
Participate in the prospective and admitted student events and other events such as Open House Events, Accepted Student Day, New Student Orientation, Preview Day, Information Sessions, Pinning Ceremony, White Coat Ceremony, etc.
Schedule, coordinate, and facilitate group academic advising sessions or other advising events as needed.
Coordinate with departments offering general education and pre-requisite courses to estimate to plan course scheduling.

Minimum
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant subject from an accredited institution or 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred
Master's Degree in a relevant subject from an accredited institution.
Experience in Higher Education Student Advising

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels of the university.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, students and community members of diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google or related software.
Highly organized with strong personal management skills in order to meet the needs of a dynamic environment.
Meticulous attention to detail.

Ability to delegate duties and manage other team members as appropriate.

Must be able to follow oral and written instructions, and be familiar with policies and procedures in order to prepare a variety of records, reports, and correspondence using appropriate software formats as directed.
Demonstrated proficiency in planning and coordinating special events.
Proficiency using academic learning management systems and using platforms to manage, retrieve, and store data and create reports from data.
Physical Requirements
Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.
Other Requirements
This is a full time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and have a varying schedule when required.

Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner.
