The primary purpose of the Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) Concurrent Enrollment (CE) Program is to partner with high schools to deliver a college experience that prepares high school students with the skills and courses they need to navigate the challenges of higher education and complete a meaningful degree or certificate.

The SLCC CE Advising Coordinator is a new position developed to increase our existing efforts to help more students develop academic plans that lead toward meaningful degrees and careers. The goal of the SLCC CE Advising Program is to see that all CE students who have earned 12 or more credits develop an academic plan that focuses them in on taking only those CE classes that help move them toward their academic and career goals. This is done in collaboration with high school counselors and coordinators.

The SLCC CE Advising Coordinator will collaborate on a regular basis with high school counselors and CE coordinators to brainstorm and execute ideas and processes for getting more student to develop and follow through on their academic plans. Additionally, the CE Advising Coordinator, may assist high school counselors and students with academic planning, helping students to build out their academic plans in our MyCE system and DegreeWorks. The CE Advising Coordinator will also be responsible for building out and maintaining CE pathways within the MyCE system.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Visit each assigned high school every other week to discuss ways to improve the advising program at each high school, and to collaborate with high school counselors and CE coordinators to provide group and individual advising services.

  • Follow up with students and parents after each advising session to ensure they follow through.

  • Review academic plans submitted by students in MyCE and follow up with students and counselors with any questions or concerns.

  • Proactively identifying students with 12+ credits at each high school you are assigned to, and then find ways help them develop an academic plan in collaboration with counselors and CE coordinators.

  • Build and maintain degree pathways and course data in the MyCE academic planning tool.

  • Attend HS counselor meetings and/or district-wide counselor in-service meetings at least once per quarter to establish connections, provide updates, and gather feedback.

  • Attend SLCC academic advising meetings and Admissions CE Advising/Recruitment meetings to collaborate, provide occasional updates, and understand tools, resources, and trends in academic advising, CE advising and recruitment. Also to establish relationship and understand advising processes in order to help students transition to SLCC.

  • Present concurrent enrollment information to large groups of students and parents as requested by the high school.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • Two (2) years of directly related, full-time, paid work experience.

  • Trade off 2:1 in experience/education requirement.

  • Must have a valid drivers license and access to reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience work with concurrent enrollment and with high schools counselors.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to listen to the needs, concerns, challenges, and goals of others and collaborate with them to accomplish great things.

  • Ability to understand college and state policy surrounding concurrent enrollment and degree requirements and then clearly communicate that to students and high school partners.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a broad range of diverse people, abilities, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Ability to deliver engaging presentations in front of large groups of diverse populations.

  • A high level of comfort with more complex software systems such as database systems, the full Microsoft suite, building out functions and formulas in Excel, etc.

  • A willingness to discover and experiment with new ideas.

  • A high level of comfort tracking and being measured against key performance metrics.

  • Ability to engage in difficult conversations.

  • Good file management and organizational skills.

  • Good time-management skills.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and independently; learn quickly and adapt to a flexible schedule that includes some evenings.

  • Ability to work ethically with confidential information.

  • Ability to creatively solve problems within the current academic planning model and come up with new out-of-the-box solutions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

  • Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
