POSITION OPEN UNTIL FILLED

Assist students in setting and achieving appropriate educational and career goals, as well as provide encouragement and personal support. Services provided by this department include academic advising, career services, orientation, and educational planning, all of which support student success and completion. This position receives general direction from the Associate Director of Advising & Career Services and exercises no supervision.

NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Knowledge of: 1. Student development theory and strategies to foster student success. 2.

Academic and career coaching techniques, methods, and procedures. 3. General educational systems requirements. 4. College policies and procedures regarding admission standards and educational program requirements. 5.

Basic computer programs. Skills in: 6. Interpersonal relationships, demonstrating ability to establish and maintain caring, inclusive relationships with students and colleagues. 7.

Communication, demonstrating ability to concisely and assertively interact and collaborate, both orally and in writing, with students and colleagues. 8. Active listening, demonstrating ability to empower and respect diverse perspectives presented by students and colleagues. 9. Problem solving, demonstrating ability to equitably serve unique needs of students and colleagues. 10.

Inquiry, demonstrating ability to learn and adapt services according to the needs of students and colleagues. 11. Organization, demonstrating ability to manage multiple complex tasks concurrently. 12. Leadership, demonstrating ability to serve students and colleagues with professionalism and integrity.

Ability to: 13. Advise students regarding coursework needs to meet educational program requirements and achieve individual long-term career goals. 14. Interpret standardized tests/scores. 15.

 Interpret and apply federal, state, and college policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. 16. Maintain confidentiality and sensitive information. 17. Serve students respectfully and professionally, maintaining appropriate boundaries with students. 18.

Establish and maintain collaborative, caring relationships with students and colleagues. 19. Communicate with students and colleagues clearly, concisely, and assertively, both orally and in writing, while fostering a supportive, relational environment. 20. Determine specific needs of individual students and provide appropriate support and resources. 21. Provide academic and career coaching support in a variety of situations and environments.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Sedentary-Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities. Minimal Hazard/Exposure-Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls are in place to assure health and comfort.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: More than two years of work experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Work experience in higher education, student services, academic support, counseling, or closely related field.
