Working Title Adventure Programs Coordinator Brief Summary of Job Description
The Adventure Programs Coordinator will oversee the organization and administration of all outdoor recreation areas. Responsibilities include managing the day-to-day operations of the indoor Climbing Wall, coordinating adventure programming, and facilitation of outdoor equipment rentals including managing a comprehensive bike rental program. Evening and weekend work required.
Job Duties
Climbing Wall Duties
Facilitate all aspects of the Climbing Wall management including daily operations and staffing.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all student employees (10) in the operations, education, and risk management procedures.
Conduct routine in-services to ensure quality of staff and standards in maintained.
Determine and communicate operating hours, route setting, maintenance, and inspection schedule.
Continually evaluate and assess feedback from wall users through survey, observation, and analysis of usage patterns.
Develop and administer climbing specific programs including clinics and competitions for students, faculty, and staff.
Conduct special events for students, faculty/staff, and community members, this includes managing a master schedule of program events and scheduling groups accordingly.
Conduct routine facility and equipment inspections to ensure safety and program risk management in accordance with national standards and best practices and departmental guidelines.
Ensure proper documentation of user waivers, including belay orientation completion.
Keep up-to-date operating standards and maintenance records of the climbing wall and equipment.
Outdoor Adventure Duties
Develop and execute strategic plans and vision for Outdoor Adventure program.
Manage and oversee a year-round outdoor trip program.
Plan and organize a comprehensive trip schedule, to include a variety of outdoor activities.
Lead outdoor trip programming, ranging from 1-10 days in length.
Provide direct coordination of all outdoor equipment rental operations.
Directly supervise and train student trip leaders
Produce reports and statistical compilations of program activities.
Ensure program compliance with department and university policies and procedures.
Develop and monitor financial administration of all adventure programming.
Provide budgetary recommendations for purchasing new and replacing equipment as necessary.
Maintain records with regards to the purchasing and inventory of equipment, participation numbers, risk management procedures, payroll information, and year-end reviews.
Bike Rental Duties
Additional Responsibilities
Assist in the development and management of the department wide student employee leadership and development program, which includes graduate assistants, departmental internships, and special events to enable and further the professional experiences of our student staff.
Assist in department wide staff trainings, including CPR/AED/FA certification courses.
Assist with teambuilding services provided to both Campus Recreation staff and university groups.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
Current Adult CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
Valid driver's license and ability to meet the requirements to drive University vehicles.
Rock Climbing Certification (PCIA or AMGA) or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Recreation Administration, Leisure Studies, or related area
Experience in a collegiate outdoor recreation setting, specifically in the program areas of outdoor adventure and climbing wall.
Exceptional knowledge of skills, techniques, and certifications involved in programming a variety of outdoor adventure activities.
Wilderness and Remote First Aid Instructor Certification
Leave No Trace Master Educator Certification
