Job Description

ASRT will be the first line of security for locations that utilize the Evolv System. ASRT will be assigned to the operation of the Evolv Systems. Utilizing the Evolv, a concealed weapon detection system, ASRT will monitor visitors to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta locations. The ASRT Officer will be responsible for the removal of any weapons or turning away from entry those individuals that refuse search or have weapons that cannot be collected. ASRT Officers shall possess an ability to effectively communicate with all individuals as they will have constant contact with visitors and must be able to de-escalate any situation. ASRT Officers also must possess the ability to remain calm under pressure to address and mitigate stressful situations.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in security, safety, , or similar occupation OR 2 years of experience in law enforcement, military, EMS, or fire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Technical degree

  • Certification in less-lethal applications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Certification Summary

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) at orientation or within 3 months of employment

  • Successfully pass crisis prevention and handcuffing training within 12 months of employment

  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) advanced certification within 9 months of employment (external candidate)

  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) advanced certification within 3 months of promotion (internal candidate). (Basic certification upon consideration and at transfer only)

  • Annual Axon TASER certification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Adheres to pre-employment Cooper Standards physical fitness agility test; annual physical assessment required

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to write complete, accurate, and concise incident reports

  • Ability to function independently of constant supervision

  • Ability to provide sound judgment and confidentiality in handling of sensitive information

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and the use of a personal computer

Job Responsibilities

  • Ability to use post-security equipment (handheld and walk-thru metal detectors); ability to use handcuffs, TASER, body worn camera and asp baton at any time while on duty.

  • Must be able to wear protective body armor as a part of the duty uniform.

  • Able to subdue or disarm violent or potentially violent or disturbed individuals or intervene in a crisis.

  • Preserves order and may act to enforce regulations and directives for the hospital pertaining to personnel, visitors, patients, and premises.

  • Protects evidence or scene of incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations.

  • Responds and acts as first responder to incidents of fire, medical emergencies, bomb threat, flooding, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other incidents.

  • Assists Division of Family and Children Services, Risk Management, Safety, Nursing, Administration, law enforcement, and social workers in the protection and safety of personnel, patients, visitors, and property.

  • Investigates incidents reported by employees, visitors, physicians, and patients and reports all incidents verbally or through incident reports by end of shift.

  • Assists Supervisor and/or Manager with development of staff by being available to teammates, acting as a resource to help complete complicated/complex tasks and serving as a field training officer for new officers and the team.
