Job Summary:

The Advanced Quality Manager (AQM) is an integral member of the cross functional program management team and is the knowledge authority for quality related aspects of APQP, customer specific and PPAP requirements. The AQM is responsible for assuring all quality related Clause deliverables and customer expectations are met for each assigned program through prototype, pre-production builds and PPAP approvals.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Execute assigned quality related tasks for assigned programs.

  • Provides guidance/development and goal attainment with plant Quality Manager/Engineers assigned to the program.

  • Ensures that Advanced Quality deliverables are completed on time and customer expectations are fulfilled.

  • Participate and provides input in design reviews.

  • Participates and provides input to the Program Engineer in the development of DFMEA.

  • Facilitates/Participates in the development and review of plant PFMEA and Control Plans to ensure robust process/ product controls are in place for mitigating risk through the launch phases and that lessons learned, customer rejections, and warranty concerns are captured in these documents.

  • Provides input in the identification of SC/CC on both customer and supplier documents.

  • Develops past problem history, warranty reports, and lessons learned and ensures countermeasures are in place for new launches.

  • Responsible for assisting problem solving for assigned programs for quality related issues utilizing 8Ds problems solving tools as appropriate.

  • Ensures that Customer and Internal Quality Problems are resolved in the required timeframe and in the required customer format (e.g. 8D)

  • Gains approval for appearance items from customers (when appearance items are specified on drawings).

  • Reviews GD&T and gauging methodologies for assigned programs.

  • Serves as a PPAP knowledge authority.

  • Defines customer specific requirements (Ford, GM, and Chrysler/Asian OEM German OEMS).

  • Interfaces and attends customer meetings relating to launches.

  • Interface with program management, launch management, engineering and plant quality engineers assigned to the program.

  • Participates in Launch Readiness Reviews (LLR and ensures PPAP and quality related AQP concerns are raised and escalated for assigned programs).

  • Reviews safe launch process/work book instructions with plant Quality Manager/Engineer assigned to the program.

  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers resulting in excellent customer satisfaction.

  • Lead Internal Audits, report audit findings and ensure timely close out of any required corrective actions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field (Engineering preferred).

  • 5-7 years experience in advanced quality role in automotive is preferred.

  • 5-7 years experience in stamping/welded assembly manufacturing plant is preferred.

  • Experience and competency in advanced quality planning including all AIAG core tools (AQP, FMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, and PPAP).

  • Experience and competency in facilitating DFMEA, PFMEA and Control Plan teams.

  • Experience and competency in new program launches.

  • Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing methods and Six Sigma methodology is highly desirable.

  • Proficient in use of a computer and common office software (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to work in a self-directed environment.

  • Good mechanical/technical skills and ability to read engineering drawings are desirable. GD&T proficiency is highly desirable

  • Hands on SPC knowledge, ASQ CQE or Black Belt preferred.

  • Project management hands on experience.

Work Conditions:

  • The position is located at a corporate office. Travel to customer, Company manufacturing sites, and supplier sites will be involved. The position may require work with potentially hazardous products in a controlled, safe environment.

We are looking for a candidate with experience in controls and a strong understanding of powertrain systems. Experienced Powertrain Development and Calibration Engineers with enthusiasm for controls development are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will be able to significantly contribute in many or all of the following areas: * Strategic optimization of engine speed, gear, powertrain state, engine torque optimization * Tactical torque controls for drivability management, brake regeneration controls and hybrid shift execution strategies * Utilization of sensors in feedback and feedforward control strategies * Advanced control methodologies such as Model Predictive Control and Machine Learning Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Systems Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Physics, or any other relevant STEM oriented degree from an ABET accredited university * 5 years of related work experience in controls, calibration, or systems development * 2 years in electrified powertrain * Demonstrated technical problem solving * Strong overall knowledge of vehicle and powertrain functions * Experience with modeling, simulation, development, testing, calibration and/or validation * Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork Preferred Qualifications: * Master's degree or higher in a propulsion related field or control related field * Specialization in classical and modern control disciplines with vehicle application * Propulsion system calibration and/or embedded software experience * Demonstrated application of technical excellence (developed new process, experimental or computational; developed new numerical or modeling procedure; developed new statistical procedure; developed new problem solving approach; etc.) * Knowledge of powertrain control system architecture/best practices * Demonstrated application of technical excellence * Experience with model-based development tools such as MATLAB/SIMULINK * Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS-INCA * Experience with 0-D and 1-D physical modeling tools such as GT Power and AMSIM * Experience with rapid prototype controllers Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Auburn Hills MI
