Job Purpose

This role can either be located onsite at our Global Corporate Headquarters in Reading, PA.... in Springfield, Missouri... or Warrensburg, Missouri

Lead the Quality activities with new product development projects, supporting the implementation of Quality mindset and driving for preventive actions and robust design of to the entire project teams, guiding the team to identify potential failures in an earlier stages of product development utilizing Quality tools and lessons learned. Support the identification of project risks and required actions to mitigate them and problem solving focusing on effective and robust technical solutions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive the Quality mindset within project teams

  • Drive project teams to flawless project execution using the risk assessment process to manage priorities and collaboration of cross functional teams

  • Develop and define project Quality plans based on APQP process

  • Coach and train co-workers on Quality methods and tools

  • Develop, implement and monitor Quality KPIs

  • Develop and support development of new components/process with supplier, drive for excellence in part quality

  • Coordinate and drive Problem solving activities within the projects with focus to prevention

  • Guide and drive process quality activities in the manufacturing environment in preparation for series production

  • Coordinate and manage PPAP dossiers in preparation for series production

  • Support Development activities of critical, troubleshooting and problem solving whenever required

  • Prepare and issue weekly Quality Status Report for new projects

  • Moderate Design and Process FMEAs

  • Develop along with cross-functional NPI teams control plans for prototypes, pre-production and mass production

  • Drive for application of lessons learned into product design

  • Provide support to reliability growth test in the stages of product development with the aim to detect and report the product decay or the correctable abnormalities during the development phase, supporting the definition of the diagnosis

  • Support preparation and execution of internal and third-party quality audits and provide technical support to sustain the effectiveness of the quality manage system

  • Guarantee quality criteria standardization during the development of APQP phases

  • Ensure application of lessons learned relevant for the specific project

  • Perform and support Project Status Audits and Process Audits on new production lines whenever required,

  • Review and analyze data for Continuous Improvement projects

  • Coordinate the APQP of new products by supporting the plant during the quotation process of new products, introduction of product modifications/process changes/new suppliers

  • Review customer requirements as essential input for the projects


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's in Science - Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics engineering (preferred)

  • Quality tools experience

  • Experience managing Quality activities with Suppliers

Preferred Requirements

  • Six Sigma Green Belt

  • Certified auditor

  • FMEA moderator

  • Automotive Spice and or functional safety skills (ISO 26262)

  • IATF Core tools

The Director of Quality leads all quality control functions for the PEP and SAO organizations. This position develops, leads and administers the organization's quality control policies and program, directly manages the global quality teams for all Carpenter manufacturing locations (&gt;150 employees total across over 20 locations), and oversees the Quality Operations function specifically.</p><p>PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE DIRECTOR OF QUALITY</p><ul><li><p>Direct and maintain Quality Prevention, Assurance and Control systems as well as the activities that ensure Carpenter products and quality services achieve compliance to customer specifications with World Class Quality Practices</p></li><li><p>Develop policies, procedures, and methods to check and/or improve product, material, components and/or operational quality. Provide leadership and direction through managers</p></li><li><p>Responsible for programs that establish and maintain quality standards of existing products and services, as well as developing programs to focus employees on quality improvement</p></li><li><p>Accountable for ensuring compliance to customer and industry requirements including Nadcap (HT, MTL, UT), AS9100, AS9120, ISO 17025, ASTM and European Directive as well as other standards based on business requirements</p></li><li><p>Lead and mentor senior managers. Develop the team through leadership opportunities, coaching, mentoring, and reward systems</p></li><li><p>Provide strategic and tactical leadership for the quality organization</p></li><li><p>Develop, implement, and maintain internal quality performance metrics in alignment with customer expectations and that drive business improvements</p></li><li><p>Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and leaders across the organization related to quality operations</p></li><li><p>Travel about 25% of the time to other Carpenter Technology business locations.</p></li><li><p>Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned</p></li></ul><p>REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DIRECTOR OF QUALITY</p><ul><li><p>Four-year college degree in materials science or engineering required or high school diploma and 15+ years of relevant experience required</p></li><li><p>Advanced business degree preferred</p></li><li><p>Ability and willingness to travel 25% of the time to other company business locations.</p></li><li><p>15+ years of experience with progressively increasing responsibility in the quality environment and at least 5 years in a managerial / leadership role</p></li><li><p>Solid understanding of materials science, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and analytical techniques especially as related to SAO and PEP products.</p></li><li><p>Broad business and management expertise to drive financial and operational performance across multiple departments and/or functions.</p></li><li><p>Proven track record of leading and managing quality initiatives resulting in continual improvement of quality, productivity and reduced costs in a manufacturing setting that is multi-national and multi-cultural.</p></li><li><p>Ability to perform a quality audit and implement statistical process control systems.</p></li><li><p>Expert knowledge of Carpenter's manufacturing systems, processes, and products.</p></li><li><p>Expert knowledge of international and industry specific quality standards including ISO, TS, TUV, NADCAP and AS.</p></li><li><p>Expert knowledge of Quality Sciences and testing technologies.</p></li><li><p>Expert knowledge of Lotus Notes databases and MS Office suite applications.</p></li><li><p>Expert knowledge of formal problem-solving processes, quantitative analysis, and statistical process.</p></li></ul><p>PREFERRED FOR THE DIRECTOR OF QUALITY</p><ul><li><p>Leadership experience involving a global organization including leading and integrating work in a global team environment.</p></li><li><p>Proven ability to effectively develop and train professional and non-professional personnel.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated advanced people management skills, including coaching, mentoring, development planning, and performance management.</p></li><li><p>Strong communication and interpersonal/team skills.
