Advanced Propulsion Control Senior Engineer

DUTIES: BorgWarner Inc. seeks an Advanced Propulsion Control Senior Engineer based out of our office at 3800 Automation Avenue, Auburn Hills, MI 48326.

Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the aforementioned office address. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the aforementioned office address. Note, this position requires domestic and / or international travel up to 5% of the time. Conduct controls strategy, architecture, and algorithm development for major projects in propulsion system management; Design, implement, debug, and test control algorithms for propulsion management systems, including in connected and automated vehicles; Design, implement, debug, and test machine learning and data analytics algorithms for mobility related systems; Perform offline simulation, rapid prototyping, hardware-in-theloop and vehicle testing, including real driving; Prepare documentation for algorithms and control systems, including calibration guidelines; Assist with or provide initial calibration of algorithms; Specify required sensor, actuator, electronics and system performance requirements; Identify, select, and procure components; Guide and oversee personnel in the coding/implementation of algorithms, internally and at external service providers when applicable; Support system-level control integration, testing, and analysis of resulting data; Develop new innovative test procedures / concepts when necessary and oversee / conduct the implementation and execution of these test methods; Stay current on emerging trends / technologies in propulsion management field; Write Records of Invention and technical papers and present at key powertrain technology venues.

REQUIREMENTS: Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and 48 months of experience in the job offered or closely related.

Required experience must include: Experience designing, implementing, debugging, and calibrating complex control algorithms for propulsion and propulsion-related systems; Experience designing, implementing, debugging, and training machine learning and data analytics algorithms for propulsion and propulsion-related systems; Experience using Matlab-Simulink-State flow tool chain to create models and control algorithms, and simulate their performance; Experience using rapid-prototyping tools for control system development and evaluation; Experience applying optimization techniques in control systems designs in a microprocessor-based controller environment; Experience with propulsion management systems, including electric vehicle systems and electric vehicle-related infrastructure; Experience with the implementation and testing on real-world, mobility-related systems.
