Position Summary

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for our offices located in Norfolk and Hampton. This position will provide direct Research/Phase I oncology care in collaboration with physicians and Virginia Oncology Associate's research program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for oncology patients in an outpatient setting

  • Initiate and document appropriate interventions

  • Evaluate and record patient and family response within practice protocol

  • Prescribe drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation

  • Assess patient and family needs and provide education

  • Promote/provide staff education

  • Serve as a liaison between inpatient, skilled nursing, and home setting

  • Incorporate evidence-based research into clinical practice

  • Travel to and attend research related conferences and trainings

  • Provide genetic testing and counseling when appropriate

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program or successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program

  • Post MSN experience in oncology nursing or oncology Physician Assistant preferred

  • Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiological and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment

  • RN State License and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state, along with current state certification of Nurse Practitioner or current state license as a Physician Assistant

  • Current CPR certification required

  • Must be willing and able to travel between VOA research program locations and to required conferences/trainings

The candidate will work to modify or design advanced parachute systems and concepts; develop new ways to increase the fidelity of parachute models using theoretical, experimental and numerical methods; and implement parachute models in flight mechanics trajectory software.
