Position Summary

Provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, referral and follow-up for patients seen in the Clinical Services area of the Health Department. This position, with a high degree of autonomy, functions as a physician extender and provides healthcare services to include preventive, acute and chronic care.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure compliance with agreement addenda requirements and agency policies and procedures for STI, Family Planning, Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP) and/or Tb/Refugee programs

  • Obtain and review patient histories and perform physical exams and assessments

  • Formulate care plan and provides patient counseling and education

  • Order and review labwork and diagnostic tests

  • Prescribe medication and determine patient follow up

  • Document in EMR in a timely fashion.

  • Bill and code appropriately

  • Coordinate treatment and plan with clinical staff and other physicians, when indicated

  • Assists staff with other nursing or medication related duties as needed

  • Participate in public health emergency response activities as needed

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

No Experience Required

Education:

Graduation from a nurse practitioner or physician assistant program approved by the NC Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Maintain Medical Board License as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.

  • CPR certification

  • Obtain required FEMA certifications (upon hire if not already obtained).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Public Health experience
  • IUD and Hormonal Implant training and experience (for FP providers)
  • Tb/LTBI experience (for Tb/Refugee providers)

  • Strong medical assessment skills

  • Human anatomy and physiology

  • Pharmacodynamics

  • Guidelines for care according to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Title X, CDC guidelines, and Division of Public Health Agreement Addenda

  • Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Service standards

Skills

  • Assessing needs and determining the appropriate treatment care plan

  • Professional multi-disciplinary communication and collaboration

  • Interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Abilities

  • Business Acumen: Having achieved a satisfactory level of technical and professional skill or knowledge in position-related areas; keeping up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise

  • Customer Service: Ensuring that the patient perspective is a driving force behind decisions and activities; crafting and implementing service practices that meet patients' and own organization's needs

  • Communication: Clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the information provided

Computer Skills

  • Intermediate in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite and EMR applications
