The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) has an opening for a full-time (unclassified) Instructor (North Campus) position.

Nature of Work:

The Instructor - Advanced Practice Provider will be in the Section of Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT). This full-time faculty position will focus primarily on outpatient care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Children's Hospital Colorado North Campus, Broomfield. This position will be expected to independently supervise the CCBD infusion center at North Campus with a focus on non-CCBD infusions initially and will also rotate with other APPs in coverage of outpatient clinics in the CCBD on the Anschutz Medical Campus. This position is expected to grow in responsibilities with future expansion at North Campus where we intend to eventually offer CCBD-related infusions and clinics.

Job Duties:

  • Primary management of outpatient infusion care of infants, children, and adolescents undergoing therapy for a variety of CCBD and non-CCBD related diagnoses, including emergency care and transfer/triage to higher level care as clinically indicated;

  • Provide education for rotating residents, fellows, PNP, PA, RN students working within the CCBD;

  • Provide education for outpatient RN and other staff;

  • Provide outpatient clinical care including writing and delivery of chemotherapy and supervising infusions and transfusions.

  • Perform lumbar punctures including intrathecal chemotherapy if applicable, bone marrow aspirates, and bone marrow biopsies as needed for treatment and therapy;

  • Other mission-related responsibilities as needed by the Section and the hospital;

  • Collaborate with other CCBD and non-CCBD faculty to communicate with primary care and other referring providers;

  • Provide materials, resources, and education for patients and families receiving care at this site;

  • Participate in quality improvement and other academic projects.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree



  • Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice within the State of Colorado:

oAPN licensure as a Nurse Practitioner;

oPA licensure as Physician Assistant;

NCCPA Certification for PA-C

oPALS and BLS certifications according to hospital privileging requirements;

  • Acute Care Certification

  • Current Prescriptive Authority

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado.

  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex-offender background check.

  • If Prescriptive Authority is not already possessed, the process will be required during the first year of employment.

  • Continuous maintenance of Advanced Certification, Privileges, and Licenses

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four or more years in a Hematology, Oncology or BMT setting, with at least two years in a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant setting;

  • Experience with care coordination and/or management of other pediatric sub-specialties and disease management;

  • Experience in Clinical Research is desirable.


  • Knowledge of pediatric BMT and/or Hematology/Oncology program;

  • Knowledge of infusion therapies for non-Hematology/Oncology/BMT diagnoses;

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills;

  • Ability to work in both an Inpatient and Outpatient Setting;

  • Independent patient care experience in the context of complex, tertiary care medical practice;

  • Comfort with managing infusion and medication reactions including allergic, transfusion, and anaphylactic reactions;

  • Ability to promote, focus on and participate in Patient Safety, Quality Care, Communication and Customer Service;

  • Ability to be comfortable with and promote a team-oriented approach with both patients and colleagues.
