POSITION SUMMARY:

The Department of Otolaryngology at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine is seeking an Instructor to perform general duties as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) The APP will assist USF Otolaryngology faculty in the evaluation, management, and treatment of patients at the Carol and Frank Morsani Center, South Tampa Clinic, Tampa General Hospital and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center.

The APP is responsible for the treatment of patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting within the scope of practice permitted under Florida law. In addition to the usual and customary duties of an RN, an APP may, within a framework of established protocols, monitor and alter drug therapy, initiate appropriate therapies in certain conditions, and perform other acts of diagnosis, treatment, and operation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides pre- and post-procedure education, assessment, and care. Performs comprehensive History, physical examinations and provides inpatient care between regular rounds for physicians.

    Manages medical problems; initiates, monitors and alters therapies; orders diagnostic tests and prescribes therapeutic medication. Regularly confers with faculty physicians regarding diagnosis, treatment, best form of therapy projected, and alerts physicians to abnormal findings. Triages inpatient consults, patient phone calls, renews prescriptions, coordinates rehabilitative therapy, and assesses post-procedure problems. Coordinates all patient discharges including patient education and follow-up care instructions and provisions for continuity of care after discharge.

  • Assist and coordinate patient care with inpatient nursing unit staff.

  • Documentation of all orders, procedures, and progress notes on the patient's electronic medical record.

  • Represents and supports the mission, philosophy, and goals of the Department. Participates in clinical and education objectives required for licensure, certification, and credentialing.

    Responsible for assisting in development, implementing, and maintaining established departmental and hospital policies and procedures, including quality assurance, environmental, HIPAA, and infectious control regulations. Responsible for development and maintenance of inpatient protocols for APRN/PA activity.

  • Participation in Departmental Conferences, educational activities, and Quality Assurance and Improvement Programs and coordinates Quality Improvement processes. Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

This position requires graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64, or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 458 and 459 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Instructor.
