Responsibilities*

Basic Function and Responsibility

Under physician supervision, coordinate care and management of patients referred to Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Program. Provide weekly patient case presentations to multidisciplinary TAVR team. Investigate, develop and implement care delivery models targeted to improve patient satisfaction while increasing clinical efficiency, safety, and quality. Provide inpatient consultations for patients referred to the TAVR program. Complete detailed history and physicals and present pertinent data to the medical staff. Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures and clinical studies. Order tests and prescribe medications. Partner with the inpatient, OR, cath lab and outpatient teams to: develop safe, effective and efficient care coordination for this patient population; provide education for patients, families and health care professionals; participate in development, implementation, evaluation and outcome monitoring of the provided clinical care.

Supervision Received

Supervision of professional nursing practice is received from the FCVC Clinic Administrator / Nurse Manager.

Supervision for delegated medical functions is received from designated physicians.

Required Qualifications*

NP:

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan

  • Current specialty certification to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan

  • Certification as an Acute Care Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN)

  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in Cardiology

  • One (1) year of recent (within the last five (3) years) ambulatory care experience

PA:

  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.

  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.

  • DEA License required, or ability to obtain a DEA license within 30 days of start date required.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in Cardiology

  • One (1) year of recent (within the last five (3) years) ambulatory care experience

Desired Qualifications*

  • Knowledge and preferred experience working at Michigan Medicine.

  • Three years or greater Advanced Practice experience in an acute cardiology and/or surgical setting, heart failure, arrhythmias, and aortic stenosis

  • Five years working full time in an acute cardiology setting.

  • Cardiac ICU experience with in the last 10 years.

  • At least five years, or more, working in an ambulatory care setting managing patients in a clinic setting.

  • At least one year, or more, experience working in as a practitioner in the TAVR program.

  • Ability to work 2-3 days a week minimum, preferably 4 days.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, organization and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment.

  • Demonstrated clinical leadership and experience with coordinating care and managing complex and multifaceted patients.

  • DEA License required, or ability to obtain a DEA license within 30 days of start date required.

  • ACLS certified with-in 6 months of hire

Work Schedule

Hours/Days: variable based on unit needs

Shift/Days: Flexible hours and days potential evening and weekends.

Location: Cardiovascular Center Clinics or other locations as necessary

  • Please note that these positions do not qualify for University of Michigan benefits and specific terms and conditions of employment are negotiated at the department level.

These positions are not covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U of M Professional Nurse Council.

Responsibilities* To provide direct cardiac specialty health care to patients and families in the acute inpatient and outpatient electrophysiology setting. Practice will be in partnership with attending EP cardiology faculty and fellows. To provide health education to patients; and to provide educational experiences for health care professionals. Will: Utilize the nursing process as a framework for managing client/family care. Assess, diagnose and treat health problems for the MWE cardiac electrophysiology patient population. Perform health assessments including patient history, physical examinations, diagnostic tests and appropriate interventions or referrals. Document patients care and progress and maintain complete and detailed patient records. Provide health education. Develop and implement patient education programs. Present workshops, lectures and in-service programs. Serve as a preceptor for graduate nursing and nurse practitioner students.
