This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening.

A total of one (1), 1.0 FTE, Advanced Practice Professionals (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.

Responsibilities*

Under physician supervision, coordinates care of acutely ill post-surgical Adult/Late Adult patients admitted to the Cardiac Surgery Service intensive care setting. Specifically, role requires clinician to:

  • Perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks associated with patients undergoing Cardiac, Vascular and Thoracic procedures, including heart and lung transplantation and ventricular assist devices.

  • Collect detailed histories and physicals and present pertinent data to the medical staff.

  • Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies.

  • Order tests and prescribe medications.

  • Perform various diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor procedures, based on privileges.

  • Assist attending physician in orientation of new resident physicians to the service and assist in maintaining continuity of care throughout the Cardiovascular center.

  • Confer with attending physicians and communicate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate clinical care. Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatment.

  • Streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including writing discharge orders and communicating specific patient needs to team members.

  • Participate in quality assurance activities, peer evaluations and support research initiatives involving CVICU and cardiac surgery patients.

  • Comply with established standards for quality, patient safety and re-imbursement.

  • Perform other related duties and initiatives as deemed necessary in the best interests of patient care.

  • Utilize new improvements and/or technologies that relate to job assignment.

Note: Position is night/day rotator with the majority of shifts being on nights. Holiday and weekend rotation required, weekend requirement could be as much as 50% or every other.

Required Qualifications*

NP:

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.

  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).

  • ACLS certification (completed by start date).

PA:

  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.

  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.

  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

  • ACLS certification (completed by start date).

NP/PA:

  • Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to a group/ICU setting.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, organization and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to function independently and as a team member.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate clinical care ideas across multiple patient care services and to communicate assertively as a patient advocate.

  • Demonstrated high level of critical thinking.

  • Ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment.

  • Demonstrated clinical leadership and experience with coordinating and managing complex and multifaceted projects.

  • Demonstrated high level of motivation to learn and to participate in activities to improve patient care.

  • Must reflect a professional appearance and demeanor and possess excellent customer service skills.

  • At least 1 year of recent ICU experience as an NP

  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of current medical, surgical, and pharmaceutical treatment modalities of the post-cardiothoracic surgery.

  • Demonstrated experience with ventricular assist device and heart/lung transplantation patients.

  • Demonstrated expertise in facilitating the educational growth of others through previous clinical instructional roles.

PA:

  • At least 1 year recent experience caring for acutely ill patients with diseases common in Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery .

  • At least 1 year of recent ICU experience as an PA

  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of current medical, surgical, and pharmaceutical treatment modalities of the post-cardiothoracic surgery.

  • Demonstrated experience with ventricular assist device and heart/lung transplantation patients.

  • Demonstrated expertise in facilitating the educational growth of others through previous clinical instructional roles.

Work Schedule

Hours: Full-time, 40 hrs/week. Weekend shifts required. Holiday shifts required. Weekend requirement could be as much as 50% or every other.

Job Summary The Hospital Section of the Department of Psychiatry is seeking an Advanced Practice Professional (PA or NP) to do direct patient care under the immediate supervision of a psychiatry faculty member primarily in the adult psychiatric partial hospital program (PHP), with additional duties occasionally on the adult inpatient unit (9C), the consultation/liaison service (C/L service), Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES), and an outpatient bridging clinic. Responsibilities* Responsibilities for the Adult Psychiatry Partial Hospital Program (primary service): * Assist with program development. * Assist with plans of transitions of care to and from the PHP. * Perform initial and follow-up assessments on patients referred to and within the program. * Act as the primary provider for the PHP and collaborate with the faculty psychiatrist as appropriate. Responsibilities on 9C (when assigned): * Perform initial assessments and present findings to the faculty psychiatrist. * Write admission H&Ps. * Conduct daily rounds on continuing stay patients and write appropriate orders. * Write daily progress notes. * Monitor medical tests and consult other services as needed. * Collaborate with the faculty and multidisciplinary team on the treatment plan. * Participate in family meetings as needed. * Assist with transitions of care to and from 9C. Responsibilities on the Consultation/Liaison service (when assigned): * Perform initial assessments on medical-surgical patients for whom psychiatry consultations are sought and present findings to the faculty psychiatrist. * Write consultation notes. * See follow-up patients and write continuing consultation notes as appropriate. * Collaborate with the faculty and multidisciplinary team on the C/L service. * Contribute to the ongoing educational efforts of psychiatry to the medical-surgical services regarding common mental health issues. Responsibilities in Psychiatric Emergency Services (when assigned): * Perform initial assessments on patients in PES and present findings to the faculty psychiatrist. * Write evaluation notes. * Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to make appropriate disposition plans for patients. * Educate patients and families as indicated. * Assist with transitions of care from PES.
