Salary range: $116,239 - $178,620 / year

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities will include caring for general neurology, epilepsy, neuro-oncology, and stroke patients including: rounding on the patients, writing daily progress notes, discharge summaries, entering orders, etc. Cover pager for neurology patients, general care, step down patients, and possibly ICU patients.

The NP/PA will communicate with the primary teams throughout the day as needed to share clinical condition changes, new laboratory results, consultant recommendation etc. on the neurology patients. After appropriate training the NP/PA:

  • Will be able to perform interpretation of routine neurologic studies.

  • Assist with data collection and management in the clinical research on the unit under the direction of the physician.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Maintain ACLS certification and competency.

  • Participate in appropriate professional organizations and engage in clinical research as able.

Required Qualifications*

NP

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.

  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner.

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).

  • Minimum of one (1) year clinical experience with neuro patient population.

  • Current DEA registration

  • ACLS certification

  • AHA Approved BLS

PA:

  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.

  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.

  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

  • Minimum of one (1) year clinical experience with neuro patient population.

  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required

  • Current DEA registration required

  • ACLS certification

  • AHA Approved BLS

NOTE:

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.

Desired Qualifications*

One (1) or more years of recent clinical experience working in Neuro ICU or Neuro patient population.

One (1) or more years recent NP/PA full time experience with neuro patient population

Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, organization and problem solving skills.

Ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment.

Demonstrated clinical leadership and experience with coordinating care and managing complex and multifaceted patients.

Demonstrated experience with procedures such as lumbar puncture, etc. will be completed by the NP/PA Initially with the intensivist until the NP/PA has been approved to perform the procedure without supervision.

DEA License required, or ability to obtain a DEA license within 30 days of start date required.

ACLS certified with-in 6 months of hire

Work Schedule

Hours/Week: 32 hours, 0.8 FTE

Shift/Hours/Days: Variable, Weekdays & alternating Weekends.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
