Department: Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine

Locations: Locations include Specialty Centers in Plano and Prosper as well as Children's Medical Center Dallas and Plano.

Additional Information: This position includes outpatient clinic visits in addition to inpatient consults. Ideal candidate is a dual certified pediatric primary care and acute care nurse practitioner or physician assistant.

Shift: This is a full-time, 40 hours/week position.

Hours: Clinic is open Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The APP will work with medical director and APP leadership to determine schedule. This position may include rotating inpatient consults and telephone call among all providers including weekends, nights, and holidays.

Summary:

As an Advanced Practice Practitioner on our Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine team, you will play an important part in helping children get the care they need.

The practitioner functions as a health care provider providing pulmonology services to children with respiratory conditions, whether common or complex and working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to deliver high quality care.

  • Enhances communication and collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary healthcare team members

  • Assist families in identifying goals and priorities, and help with decision-making

  • Provide emotional, social, educational and psychosocial support

  • Help arrange supportive home care services

  • Provides direct clinical care in an expanded role guided by education, certification, licensure, clinical expertise and Prescriptive Authority Agreement or Delegation Protocol that incorporates comprehensive assessment skills, diagnostic ability, critical thinking, independent decision-making, collaborative management of health and illness problems, leadership within complex systems, and the ability to critically analyze and translate research findings into practice.

  • Evaluates patient response to interventions and modifies care plan as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.

How You'll Be Successful:

SPECIALTY SKILLS AND PROCEDURES

  • Manage a child's pain or other unpleasant symptoms, such as nausea or constipation.

  • Assist families in identifying goals and priorities, and help with decision-making.

  • Provide emotional, social, educational and psychosocial support.

  • Help determine end-of-life choices if a child's diagnosis is considered terminal.

  • Help arrange supportive home care services and/or hospice services if needed.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • At least two years job related experience preferred

  • At least two years experience in pediatrics or related specialized area of nursing preferred

  • Ability to demonstrate exposure and sincere interest in chronic care life limiting illness preferred

  • EDUCATION

  • Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience Advanced Professional Education to support required licensing required.

  • A minimum of a master's degree (Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies) is required.

  • LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current license in the state of Texas (RN and APRN for Nurse Practitioner, PA for Physician Assistant), required.

  • Appropriate accompanying board certification to state license, required.

  • Current CPR/BLS for the Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association, upon hire required.

  • APN: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas (or current valid Compact RN license) upon hire required.

  • APN: Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a national certifying body recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing in the appropriate population focus area upon hire required.

  • PA: Current license issued by the Texas Physician Assistant Board within 180 days required

  • PA: Current certificate issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants upon hire required.

  • APN & PA: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements required.

  • APN & PA: Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification if practicing in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) upon hire required.

  • APN & PA with hospital privileges: Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification 180 days required.
