ABOUT THE JOB:

This is a full-time Advanced Practice Provider position that functions as a health care provider within the Emergency Department (ED) for the purpose of providing age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works interdependently with and independently within the health care team providing care that is family-centered as well as efficient, respectful of time, and fiscally responsible. This role supports the organizational mission of making life better for children by improving access to care, providing continuity of care as well as ensuring the delivery of quality care.

  • The practice will involve care and management of patients in the ED setting. Care will include performing H & Ps, development and implementation of a plan of care for diagnosis, admission and discharge, ED procedures, healthcare teaching and education, and coordination of needed services and specialty consults.

  • The APP manages the ED patients independently and in collaboration with the ED attending physician on high level acuity patients.

Due to scope of practice, chosen candidate will be an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant. Previous pediatric experience is highly preferred and critical to success in the role.

Shift Details: full-time; variable shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidaysas part of a 24/7/365 coverage model. Weekend, Night, and Holiday work is shared equally among all team members.

Provide medical care for critically ill pediatric patients with a broad spectrum of single organ and multi-organ illnesses. Duties include the essential functions of the Advanced Practice Professional - practitioner, consultant/mentor, educator and researcher.

Practitioner:

  • Provides direct clinical care in an expanded role guided by education, clinical expertise and Collaborative Practice Agreement or Protocol that incorporates comprehensive assessment skills, diagnostic ability, critical thinking, independent decision-making, collaborative management of health and illness problems, leadership within complex systems, and the ability to critically analyze and translate research findings into practice. This includes:

  • Patient history and physical examination.

  • Diagnosis and patient management including ordering and prescribing of medications and treatments:

  • Orders and interprets necessary diagnostic and/or therapeutic tests.

  • Sub-specialty consultations

  • Procedures

  • Evaluates patient response to interventions and modifies care plan as necessary to achieve desired outcomes

  • Discharge planning and admission.

  • Anticipatory guidance regarding pediatric growth and development

Consultant/Mentor:

  • Consults as needed with other health care professionals, patients, and families in the formulation and initiation of the health care plan

  • Evaluates the outcome of the patient consultation and modifies recommendations as needed to facilitate restoration of health

  • Utilization of advanced knowledge to provide clinical leadership to other health care professionals through mentoring, education, and clinical consultation

Educator:

  • Identifies the learning needs of patients and their families and directs educational activities to meet these needs

  • Recognizes educational needs of peers and staff and participates in formal and informal educational activities to meet identified needs

  • Evaluates response to educational interventions, including validation of learning and understanding to determine the impact on quality of care

Researcher:

  • Participates actively in research, independently or in collaboration with other professionals as a member of a research team, assisting in gathering data, collaborating as a research investigator or initiating research

  • Reviews and utilizes current literature and research findings for evidence-based practice in the health care of patients and their families

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 2 years of Advanced Practice Provider experience, preferred.

  • At least 2 years of pediatric experience, preferred.

EDUCATION:

  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies (MPS) or

  • Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or Doctorate degree (DNP or PhD) in Nursing.

LICENSES and CERTIFICATIONS:

  • If chosen candidate is an Advanced Practice Nurse:

  • APRN: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Texas, required. Recognition as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner on APRN license, required.

  • APRN: Current certification as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner by a national certifying body recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing, required.

  • If chosen candidate is a Physician Assistant:

  • PA: Current license issued by the Texas Physician Assistant Board, required.

  • PA: Current certificate issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, required.

  • All candidates:

  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support-CPR) certification, required.

  • Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification within 180 days of hire.

ABOUT THE JOB: This is a full-time Advanced Practice Provider position that functions as a health care provider within the Plastic Surgery Department for the purpose of providing age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care. Daily routines and duties vary depending on the rotation of the schedule to ensure coverage for the Dallas clinic schedule, OR schedule, ED call, and the Plano clinic, ED call and OR. As staffing permits, the APP is scheduled for administrative time for the purpose of involvement in special projects or research and engaging in educational and professional developmental opportunities. Due to scope of practice, the ideal candidate will be a Physician Assistant. Nurse Practitioners will be considered with the following license/certifications: Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (prefer primary care & acute care dual certification) required, along with RNFA certification required. Previous pediatric, plastics and surgical experience is highly preferred. Shift Details: full-time; Monday – Friday, 7a-5p with rotating day off. Schedule will vary each week. SOME HIGHLIGHTED RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide medical care for critically ill pediatric patients with a broad spectrum of single organ and multi-organ illnesses. Duties include the essential functions of the Advanced Practice Professional - practitioner, consultant/mentor, educator and researcher. This role will have responsibilities in the Dallas clinics, OR, and ED call, as well as the Plano clinic, ED and OR. Outpatient clinic expectations include: * patient assessment * progress note completion * ordering appropriate diagnostic studies and sub-specialty referrals * review and follow up of diagnostic studies * procedures as indicated * patient education and follow up * evaluate incoming faxed referrals and telephone calls from outside providers * communicate with patient families who call clinic with concerns * contribute to educational process of medical students and residents ED Call expectations include: * Carry pager at all times and be prepared to evaluate/treat consults from the CMC ED concerning hand, face, and/or general plastic surgery patients * If consulted, go to CMC ED, evaluate patient, discuss patient with resident and attending to devise a plan * Gather supplies and perform procedure with post-procedure dressing, write Consult Note, write Procedure Note, discuss with patient's ED provider, make sure patient has adequate follow up appt scheduled * If procedure cannot be performed by PA, the PA assists resident or attending in gathering supplies and performing the procedure, or the PA assists in getting the OR scheduled. * Answer questions from any floor pages on inpatients * Answer questions from clinic staff, parents, providers concerning patients that have been or will be seen in clinic OR Assistance expectations include: * Fill out consent forms, obtain consent, and mark patient * Occasionally, perform and write H&P * Help prep patient for case once in OR * Scrub into case and first assist, often closing the incision and applying dressing * Write orders for patient (admit VS discharge), write Brief Op-Note and write Discharge Instructions, make sure patient has adequate follow up appt scheduled EXPERIENCE: * At least 2 years of Advanced Practice Provider experience, preferred. * At least 2 years of pediatric experience, preferred. * Prior surgical or plastics experience preferred.
