Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Advanced Materials/Manufacturing Postdoctoral Researcher to work in our Irradiated Fuels and Materials department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Engineering Research Office facility with very other Friday off.
You are researcher interested in exploring a career as an Advanced Materials and Environmental Degradation Postdoctoral Researcher. You have the opportunity to examine and develop new materials to withstand the harsh service conditions posed by next-generation nuclear reactor concepts. The Advanced Materials/Manufacturing Postdoctoral Researcher will join the ongoing and future efforts in the Nuclear Fuels and Materials Department with a focus on studying the environmental degradation of novel materials produced using advanced manufacturing processes. You will focus on conducting research into the role of processing conditions on the microstructural and mechanical properties of materials produced using various advanced manufacturing techniques. You will be asked to examine novel structural materials for nuclear applications and help develop composite fuel forms for fission applications and tritium breeders for fusion applications.
PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related and relevant discipline, completed by commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years
Knowledge of nuclear materials, advanced manufacturing techniques, mechanical testing methods, microstructural dependence of mechanical properties
Experience with materials characterization, advanced manufacturing techniques, mechanical testing, and modeling/simulation of mechanical deformation is required
Technical proficiency in one or more programming languages/platforms (e.g., Python, Fortran, C , MATLAB) is required
Understanding of materials performance issues for materials under extreme environments is required
Prior publications in high impact journals concerning nuclear structural materials, advanced manufacturing techniques, microstructure-dependent mechanical properties, anisotropic materials
Strong asset to our interdisciplinary R&D team and work both independently and as a team member
Independently and collaboratively working with peers and versatile teams
Fluency in the English language and excellent oral and written communication skills

Salary: $96,900 Annually
