Engineering Co-op - Advanced Manufacturing Engineering

Job Summary

This co-op term runs from January through August 2021 (spring semester plus summer) and will provide opportunities to experience Manufacturing Engineering activities, techniques, and responsibilities in the areas of new product and process development, while also contributing to business goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete assignments related to the development and launching of new products and processes, both individually and as part of a team

  • Participate in creative thinking, team decision making, and problem solving in both office and factory floor environments

  • Handle all details of assigned projects from inception to completion within mutually agreed upon time frames

  • Find answers to manufacturing, technical or systems questions when requested by internal & external customers

  • Apply good oral and written communication skills to clearly communicate with internal and external personnel to request/provide information and relay data to others

  • Interact with multiple functional areas regarding manufacturing initiatives and projects to achieve premier customer service and overall business objectives

  • Support a professional field and customer-focused environment, with measurements in place to track performance and improve the process

  • Work in coordination with an experienced manager who will provide assignment guidance and direction

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing B.S. degree in engineering (Junior or Senior standing strongly preferred).

  • Must exhibit a solid professional image with demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Ability to operate effectively in a diverse environment with multiple business goals while maintaining internal and external relationships.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required, including strong presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to grasp technical engineering details to provide solutions for customers.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) required. Working knowledge of drafting software (e.g. AutoCAD, Pro/Engineer, Creo, or Solidworks) preferred.

  • Positive attitude/demeanor and ability to work in a team environment.

  • Self-starter capable of setting and meeting goals and deadlines.

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Knowledge of HVAC products and systems, and a working knowledge of the construction and HVAC industry a plus.

We boldly challenge what's possible for a sustainable world. Job Summary: Work with Trane La Crosse for one semester and summer, beginning in January 2021 and ending by fall semester 2021. This opportunity will provide a learning and development path for students who will experience engineering activities and responsibilities that contribute measurable results to the manufacturing business and its goals. Responsibilities: This assignment may include responsibilities for process development for the production of new products or process improvements/cost reduction projects for existing processes. Project work will include Lean Manufacturing principles in the manufacturing environment. Manufacturing processes involved may include automated and manual welding, flame or induction brazing, CNC tube bending, metal forming and fabrication, CNC and manual machining, mechanical assembly, painting, and/or product testing. Interaction with adjacent business processes may include design/drafting, materials management and procurement, systems, production planning, quality and safety. An experienced manufacturing engineer or ME leader will provide assignment guidance for specific projects, and align the skills and experience of the engineering co-op with the needs of the business. Qualifications: * Junior or Senior standing in an engineering-focused degree program (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering technology, or similar) strongly preferred. * Qualified candidates must possess an ability to work in a team environment and to interact within a cross-functional team. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work on and complete a project with only moderate direction and guidance. Must be flexible, with the ability to adjust to changing demands, priorities, and objectives. * Successful Co-Op students possess good communication and interpersonal skills, and can effectively convey ideas and concepts in written and verbal form. * Experience with Microsoft office suite including word, excel, powerpoint, and outlook preferred. Working knowledge of drafting softwares (AutoCAD, Pro/Engineer, Creo, or Solidworks) optional. * Knowledge of PLC systems, or CNC machine programming is optional. Willingness to learn and be mentored is required.
