Key Qualifications

Strong work experience in precision assembly, inspection and automation equipment

Required to understand and build tolerance analysis for parts and assemblies

Knowledgeable in crafting machine qualification requirements, design of experiments and failure analysis

Understands machine qualification including calibration, correlation, capability, repeatability and reproducibility

Able to communicate effectively in a worldwide environment

You should have a proven working knowledge of DFx/DFM and be able to read and interpret engineering drawings (GD&T)Excellent oral and written communication skills, be open and willing to travel internationally to our manufacturing facility up to 35%Experience with laser welding or glue dispense equipment is strongly desired


Responsible for crafting precision assembly and measurement processes for Apple products. Perform the research and development on new technologies necessary to tackle complex assembly and automation problems that have direct impact to the quality and delivery of Apple products.

Design, implement and successfully scale automated and semi-automated solutions based upon sound engineering principles and the technologies developed for a specific application. Develop new and or improved processes through the application of theoretical and practical engineering Keeps abreast of all meaningful technical trends and developments and incorporates them in appropriate assignments Provide direction and mentorship to third party machine/automation suppliers and/or CM's; be the technical leader and driver on owned projects; serve as a technical resource to other engineering groups and project leaders Organize cross-functional reviews of the machine requirements, design, qualification and capability Create Request for Quotation/Proposal (RFQ/RFPs) that documents the design requirements of the automated equipment, delivery schedule, required documentation and qualification for acceptance at machine supplier facility and contract manufacturer's factory Provide technical guidance on FATP (final assembly, test and pack) assembly automation related FA and yield improvement activities Engage machine suppliers for automated equipment design reviews and proposals Travel to the machine supplier and contract manufacturer for equipment bring-up, qualification, acceptance testing and support during build events Drive machine qualification including correlation, process capability (CP/CPK) and Gage Repeatability / Reproducibility (GR&R) Drive failure analysis and machine issue resolution when working with machine suppliers and contract manufacturers Run equipment experiments to bound the capability of the machine Responsible for data analysis reports to communicate machine capability to the multi-functional teams You will also impact areas such as process planning, line balancing, electronic andmechanical assembly; as well as leveraging DFX methodology and tools to facilitate the transition of new products to mass production. You will cultivate technical relationships with Engineering, Operations and contract manufacturing during new product development through end of life.Performs assignments in several of the following manufacturing engineering functions: Design for Manufacturability

  • Provide early and on going manufacturing involvement to ensure new products are mechanically manufacturable. Product Engineering

  • Works all phases of a product from concept to repeat manufacturing to end of life. Provides production support engineering with respect to technically complex testing methods, procedures and failure analysis. Process Engineering

  • Designs and develops technically complex processes to improve quality and efficiency. Utilize statistical tools (such as GR&R, SPC and Cp/pCk) to ensure processes/fixtures are scalable and are continuing to perform properly once qualified. Failure/Data Analysis

  • Plans, develops and implements technically complex procedures for the testing and evaluation of soon to be released products. Specifies test to be performed, compiles data and makes recommendations for product design changes and final assembly standards. This will include the use of Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis using Six Sigma principles.


Minimum BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering- MSME preferred

Requires 2-5 years of experience in technical product manufacturing and/or fixture design role

Additional Requirements

Experience with as much of the following as possible:- Hands on engineering role with experience in design for manufacturability or manufacturing engineering a plus- Experience with heavy equipment development, process setup, tuning and optimization a plus- New product introduction, automation design and/or Manufacturing Operations experience- Design for Manufacturability, Failure/Data Analysis, Design of Experiments and statistical analysis using Six Sigma principles;- Basic understanding of adhesives, PSA's and VHB's a plus;- Working knowledge of glue dispense systems or laser welding is a plus- NX, Solidworks or ProE CAD experience a plus- JMP, Minitab & Six Sigma experience a plus

Duties and Responsibilities: * Ensures cost-effective design, installation, and method of transfer, monitoring and modifying of manufacturing processes. * Evaluates manufacturing equipment and recommends areas of improvement and automation. Serves as the project lead for the design of new fixtures and equipment. * Performs cost/benefit analysis for make vs. buy decisions, equipment purchases, efficiency improvements, and facility re-layouts. * Leads continuous improvement events and structured problem solving efforts. * Works with department Supervisors as well as Manufacturing Management to develop and implement comprehensive Continuous Improvement plans for areas within the production facility. * Performs time studies, assesses job assignments relative to take time and creates value stream maps for various Manufacturing processes. * Resolves problems in processes and materials. * Evaluates alternative approaches to manufacturing if a product, as designed, cannot be manufactured. * Interfaces with internal and external customers, suppliers and/or equipment vendors to resolve manufacturing issues. * Write budgets for capital equipment, product start-up and development projects. * Write project plans for implementation of new processes, existing process modification and capacity improvements and throughput enhancements. * Performs cost/benefit analysis on new and existing manufacturing process improvement opportunities. * Performs manufacturing capacity analysis on manufacturing processes and provides with Cpk indicies. * Develops experiments to diagnose and correct manufacturing problems utilizing statistically valid methodologies. * Identifies yield improvement opportunities and leads the development of action plans to improve yields. * Performs defect characterization analysis to construct root cause effect relationships for defect reduction leading to yield enhancements. * Provides critical process/parameters data for FMEA manufacturing tables. * Participates in project implementation and defect reduction teams * Provides investigation, analysis, containment and solutions for yield excursion in management. Essential Skills and Knowledge: * Highly technical communications capabilities, including presentation skills are necessary to successfully exchange with suppliers, customers, and internal functions * Robust knowledge of Lean principles with prior experience implementing them in a manufacturing environment. * Knowledge of the entire PCB manufacturing process, including the manufacturing process flow, a thorough understanding of individual production process steps * Knowledge of tooling and artwork generation * Basic drawing / blueprint interpretation skills. * Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization. * Ability to resolve issues with problem solving, decision-making processes and attention to detail. * Follow procedures with general supervisory instructions Education and Experience: * Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and 3 years of experience in Printed Circuit Board Manufacturing required * Robust knowledge of Lean principles with prior experience implementing them in a manufacturing environment. * Knowledge of the elements of lean production system such as 5S, work standard, cycle time, lean material flow, error proofing, and autonomous maintenance. * Proficiency using the AS400 information system and Microsoft Word and Excel, and a working knowledge PowerPoint, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Project.
