GI Alliance is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Scope:

Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients following established standards and practices. Promoting efficient patient flow and directing patient care functions with clinical support staff as necessary. Supports and adheres to the G.I. Alliance Compliance program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides general nursing care to patients. Demonstrating knowledge of age specific differences in the patient population including physiological and developmental differences unique to each group.

  • Triage patient/family phones calls as needed, and documents relevant information in the patient's medical record.

  • Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching.

  • Phones in prescriptions and returns calls to patients as required or directed by physicians.

  • May schedule new and return appointments in the computer system in accordance with physician and/or clinic guidelines. Cancel/ reschedule appointments according to physician schedule changes, notifying appropriate clinic personnel.

  • May follow up with patients as needed to reschedule missed appointments.

  • Assists with the preparation of equipment and may assist physician during examination and procedures.

  • May assist clinic operations by rooming patients, recording patient data prior to each physician visit, including, but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes. Screens patients for appropriate information and ensures updated information is entered into system.

  • Maintains current knowledge of G.I. nursing and function as a resource to junior level staff.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and clinic/corporation.

  • May perform other clinical and/or administrative duties as assigned by Practice Administrator or Clinical Manager (within general scope of skills…)

Performance Requirements:

  • Knowledge of nursing processes; health care systems, structure, and functions; and community resources. Understanding of health care technology, equipment, and supplies. Familiarity with state law on nursing care, nurse practice guidelines, INS standards of nursing practice and GIA policies and procedures.

  • Proficiency in obtaining and maintenance of intravenous access through peripheral IV catheter insertions and/or central venous access devices.

  • Knowledge of chart/medical record documentation requirements and federal/state HIPAA laws related to release of health care information.

  • Knowledge of common OSHA safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.

  • Skill and knowledge in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care.

  • Skill in time management, problem solving, multitasking, prioritizing, and medical care coordination.

  • Skill in verbal and written communication.

  • Skill in initiating appropriate crisis interventions and emergency response calmly and effectively.

  • Skill in patient triage in person and on the phone.

  • Skill in preparing/maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence.

  • Ability to analyze options and then counsel patients and families about choices and make referrals to other providers and resources.

  • Ability to read and interpret physicians orders and notes from other providers.

  • Ability to calculate and administer drug dosages and injections and measure results.

  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.

  • Perform other clinical duties as deemed appropriate by nursing management/supervisor.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education, and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program is required for this position. Minimum of three years post MSN experience in GI nursing is desired. Current experience and knowledge in the management of the physiologic and psychological effects of GI diagnosis and subsequent treatment is required. Candidates must have a current RN state license, and current registration with the Illinois State Board of Nursing, must have current certification as Nurse Practitioner. ACLS, and ACON certification is required.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This position requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting of patients, manual and finger dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard, and eye-hand coordination. Position may require sitting, standing or walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally may lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs., requires vision and hearing correctable to normal range for telephone contacts and ability to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time. Ability to commute between clinic and hospital setting as necessary.

Experience: Gastrointestinal experience preferred.
