Job Purpose (Job Summary):
Provide technical expertise in the planning, design and implementation of the company's Server (virtual \ physical) and storage platforms. Drive forward the Server and Storage road-map incorporating all server and storage services and technologies. Accomplish project objectives by planning and evaluating project activities, focusing on technical strategies, innovation, forward & lateral thinking. Additionally, maintain and follow all relevant procedures and documentation, reviewing and updating where required. Ability to configure and deploy complex infrastructure solutions, create supporting documentation and able to deconstruct environments within a Lab setup to aid troubleshooting or test recommended platform upgrades.
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
Agree clear project scopes, objectives, deliverables, priorities and timescales.
Participate in project team meetings to represent the server and Storage SMEs and provide input on project architectures
Coordinate with application developers and platform owners to provide server and storage environments needed to support the development and deployment of applications, databases and backup strategies.
Determine requirements, develop specifications, architect a solution and implement it.
Ensure project status reports to stakeholders are submitted by ensuring regular and accurate blogging and updates of projects and activities.
Ensure project deliverables are clearly defined, planned, prioritized & kept on track and within scope
Make sure that each stage of a deliverable is progressing on time and to the relevant quality/standards.
Work closely with relevant stake holders to ensure effective and efficient implementation of the project(s).
Ensure project documents are completed, current, appropriately stored and handed over to the Operations team within the relevant timescales.
Make sure there is a smooth changeover from the old technology system to the new one.
Automate and orchestrate where possible
Act as a technical touch point for members of the team, offering guidance, coaching and support.
Ensure operational standards are adhered to. This includes actively looking to continuously improve working practices to ensure the team work's as efficiently as possible.
Follow team procedures, identify gaps and resolve effectively. Including the Business/Disaster Recovery program.
Continually assist in updating road-maps and future state documents.
Keep abreast of all Server and Storage technologies.
Work on establishing the Server and Storage strategy and way forward. Thinking transformationally.
Work Experience / Knowledge:
Converged infrastructure knowledge- CISCO FlexPod and others
Storage knowledge - NetApp Filer (CDOT version) and others
Virtualization knowledge- VMWare
Windows Windows Server 2012 and newer
Proficient in Windows and NetApp systems administration.
Experience in an Enterprise support environment
Experience in scripting and automation
Knowledge of general storage technologies: iSCSI, FC, FCoE, NAS, Snapshots, SAN-SAN replication is desirable
Design, install, configure, and maintain virtual environments on VMware
Strong understanding of networking concepts: TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, DHCP, DNS, Routing
Deployment of patches, updates, service packs using both native and 3rd party tools
