Job Summary
This role is to support the clinical environment and expedite care and flow of patients in the ED. The Advanced ED tech will accomplish this by performing a variety of functions within the scope as outlined by the state of South Dakota.

Job Description
Essential Functions:
Demonstrates the ability to recognize an emergency and initiate appropriate response, as evidenced by documentation and observation
Participates in the implementation of treatment interventions
Ability to identify changes in patient condition and notify appropriate medical personnel
Demonstrates the ability to start an IV on a patient as evidenced by documentation and/or observation
Able to appropriately administer medications and fluids as listed in scope of practice in SD
Administer oxygen as indicated by patient condition and assist in the administration of nebulizers as ordered by physician
Performs procedures and treatments according to EMS standards and department protocols as evidenced by documentation and observation
Demonstrates the ability to assist with procedures as instructed
Contributes to overall cleanliness of the department
Application of splints as instructed/ordered
Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills with patients, co-workers, first responders, and other healthcare professionals to provide high quality care
Operates standard equipment, such as, stretchers, patient care monitors, and standard diagnostic equipment
Perform effective CPR when necessary
Be able to remain calm and provide good care in high stress situations
Maintain patient confidentiality
Perform appropriate clean up and disposal of contaminated items
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers and supervisors and work effectively as a team member
Complies with state regulations and service guidelines
Receive, report and document critical lab results
All other duties as assigned

South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners

Physical Requirements: Very Heavy work - exerting over 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or more than 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force occasionally (up to 33% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
