Job Overview

The Advanced Automation Engineer will be responsible for New Autonomous Product Design for various pieces of Mining Machine Autonomy (Mining Shovels, Mining Drills, Mining Draglines, etc.).

Key Job Responsibilities

TheAdvanced Automation Engineer Rolewill be directly involved in the Technical Specification, Hardware Selection, Integration, Programming and Testing of systems designed toCompletely Automate Large Scale Mining Machines/Equipment. We are seeking an experienced candidate that understands the Product Design Lifecycle, Software Development/Maintenance and the Critical Characteristics of Reliable and User-Friendly Product Design.

  • This Role will beCollaborating in a Small Team Environment with a High Level of Autonomy and Freedom to Pursue Creative Design Ideas.

  • Our team uses an Agile Style of Product Development, so high quality candidates will be experienced self-starters that are capable of turning functional concepts into technical designs with a strong focus on end user experiences.

  • A Strong Desire to Continue Expanding One's Knowledge Base isimportantdue to the fact that Our Team Integrates Advanced and Emerging Technologies.

  • This Role will be most successful with an Individual whom trulyenjoys working on technology that they may not befamiliar with.....

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree- STEM related field.1+ year of Applicable Experience (Robotics, Sensors, SW, Programming, etc.).

  • Some Formal Education in programming (not necessarily a degree in programming)

  • Experience Integrating Control Actuating Hardware with Control Feedback (ie: linear actuators, encoders, sensors, etc.)

  • 3-5 years of PLC and industrial HMI programming experience highly preferred.

Additional Desired Skills/Experience/Qualifications

  • Advanceddegree or higher in Electrical, Controls Engineering,Robotics/Mechatronics or arelated fieldwith 3+ years of related work experience. Autonomous vehicle control exposure/experiencepreferred.

  • Previous experience in System Integration involving Controls Programming.Experience with Control Architecture Design. Machine Learning experience.

  • Integration of Advanced Sensors such as RADAR, 2D/3D LiDAR, etc. Sensor Fusion experience is a plus.Integrating Positioning& Orientation Sensors such as HPGPS, Inertial Measurement, etc.

  • Prior experience in Advanced Control Algorithm Development such as Kalman Filters, State Feedback Control, PID Gain Calculation, Model Development, etc.

  • Knowledge of / Experience with Wireless Communication &/or Networking (configuration, setup, etc). Experience with

Industrial Communication Protocols (RS232/422/485, TCP/IP, CANOpen, J1939, ProfiBus/ProfiNet, EtherCAT, etc.)

  • LabView Experience (certification as a CLAD, CLD, or CLA isa significant plus). LabVIEW/Matlab/Simulink, Python/C++ Programming skills

As an Automation Engineer you will: * Maintain and enforce safety programs to ensure a safe environment for all employees * Monitor facility systems utilizing various computer software programs * Evaluate and improve electrical control systems including PLC data collection and display * Troubleshoot multiple manufacturers electrical components and input/output devices * Assist and train onsite electricians in troubleshooting equipment electrical issues * Monitor and troubleshoot facility electrical systems including high voltage * Provide electrical planning assistance in multiple capital projects WHO YOU ARE: You acquire data from multiple and diverse sources when solving problems. You rely on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment when making decisions. You maintain relationships across a variety of functions and locations. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: * Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or equivalent education with solid, proven history of electrical controls capabilities * Two plus years working in a manufacturing environment with automation control systems * Foundry equipment experience a strong plus * Strong PLC knowledge with understanding of multiple manufacturing systems * Ability to connect equipment input/output data into facility computer monitoring system * Knowledge of Wonderware for data collection and display is a strong plus * Knowledge of NFPA 70 electrical codes * Ability to create ladder diagrams * Legal authorization to work in the United States PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: * Ability to develop PLC and HMI software programs * Knowledge and experience in statistical process control methodology * Knowledge and practical experience with lean manufacturing principles * Ability to effectively train electricians and operators pertaining to control systems WHY EMERSON?
