Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience.

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Advanced IT Systems Administrator. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


Responsible for managing the functionality and efficiency of a group of computers running on one or more operating systems

Maintains the integrity and security of servers and systems

Serves as a front line interface to users with technical issues

Makes recommendations for hardware and software purchases

Interacts with third-party technology vendors and internal database staff

Conducts systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies

Duties may include installing new software, troubleshooting, granting permissions to applications and training users

The Network, Workstation, and Server System Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day support of Network, Workstation, and Server services

Performs administration of physical and virtualized servers

Performs hardening, applying STIGS, patches, and AV updates on Networks, Workstations, and Servers

Responsible for replacing End Of Life equipment

Responsible for the configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of physical and virtual hardware

Configures, maintains and troubleshoots network related interfaces on servers

Performs OS and vendor software patching on servers

Monitors Physical and Virtual Servers performance using monitoring tools

Performs, maintains, troubleshoots and does analysis of alerts on Servers

Performs administration of physical and virtualized servers using industry standard technologies

Performs administration of servers in lab environments that are physical and virtualized using industry standard technologies

Executes plans, designs, and implements necessary configurations to ensure compliance with back-up and disaster recovery policies, procedures for servers

Executes Security Compliancy processes and policies

Begins to provide mentoring to less experience IT personnel

Provides detailed technical, business or application knowledge to team members

Leads small continuous process improvement efforts

Maintains Server related standards, policies, and procedures

Researches and troubleshoots Server technical issues and communicates status to Server team and stakeholders


Broad application of principles, theories, and concepts in applicable discipline, plus working knowledge of other related fields

Provides resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems

Uses judgment within defined policies and practices

Works under limited direction

Determines and develops approach to solutions

Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met

Contributes to the development of organization's goals and objectives

Requires a solid understanding of Server based operating systems

As the Subject Matter Expert have the ability to mentor others on administrating the server environment

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with non-technical and technical audiences, and IT leadership

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of individuals including technical and non-technical staff, and IT leadership

Ability to work individually or collaboratively as part of a high-performance team

Enhanced analytical and problem solving skills

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement project plans for upgrades and system enhancements

Demonstrated ability to write policies, procedures, and create system documentation

Enhanced troubleshooting skills within the Server OS as well as both networking and storage technologies

Must have hands-on experience developing, deploying and supporting large-scale enterprise server solutions

Ensures infrastructure is reliable, flexible, integrated and anticipates future needs

Lead large team to drive tasks to completion

Takes ownership of getting the task done on schedule and within budget

Leadership ability to effectively motivate, guide and influence others to successful outcomes

Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction

Practical knowledge of access, permissions and security that gives the clients the access to the data they need to perform their daily activities

Our primary charge is the support of the systems that our employees rely on for their own day to day operations. Your future duties and responsibilities: * Benchmark, analyze, report on and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of systems and virtual infrastructure. * Actively monitor ticketing systems and email for new support inquiries and requests. Respond to issues in a timely manner, communicate necessary information to relevant support teams & impacted staff, and document resolution * Strong data gathering and reporting skills to support ad-hoc data requests * Possesses the knowledge and experience in troubleshooting production systems issues and act as an escalation point for other members * Provide on-call support on a rotational basis and as required when issues arise * Assist in the automation of currently manual repetitive tasks. * Complies with and enforces standard company policies and procedures. Required qualifications to be successful in this role: Associates degree plus seven years of experience or equivalent experience in lieu of education.
