The City of Wylie's award winning Smith Public Library has an exciting opportunity available for a customer service oriented individual to assist patrons in the Adult Services Section of the Library. This selected applicant would be responsible for creating a positive environment that will empower and motivate patrons. Promotes and nurtures the habit of reading and learning. Dedicated to serving the citizens of Wylie and upholding the library mission.
Supervision is provided by the Public Services Supervisor.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday- Wednesday 9 am to 6 pm
Thursday 11:15 am to 8:15 pm
Friday 8:15 am to 5:15 pm
Works the 2nd Saturday of every month
Tuesday & Wednesday 9 am to 6 pm
Thursday 11:15 am to 8:15 pm
Friday 8:15 am to 5:15 pm
Saturday 9:15 am to 5:15 pm
Essential Job Functions
Provides reference assistance and customer service in the Adult Area on a daily basis, in a positive manner.
Provides readers' advisory service to patrons.
Plans and implements engaging in-person and virtual activities.
Provides outreach to the senior population.
Manages and creates content for social media including promotional materials.
Develops part of the adult collection by choosing quality materials outlined by the criteria listed in our Collection Development Policy. Keeps assigned collections current and in good condition.
Troubleshoots basic office equipment and library applications on patron devices when needed.
Collaborates with fellow librarians and support staff.
Supports paraprofessional staff through training, mentoring, and modeling best practices.
Partners with community organizations when needed to enhance or promote library services.
Keeps current on information regarding trends in library services and innovative programming.
Assists with any library service where help is needed such as at computers or anywhere in the library.
Performs as a responsible steward of the public trust and strives for excellence in public service, enhancing the quality of life for all.
Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers and others.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school. Recent continuing education training through attendance at workshops and courses. Public services experience required. Two years' experience in a public library is preferred. Extensive knowledge of basic electronic and book reference tools. Experience with 3D printing. Canva Pro experience is preferred. Completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) training courses as outlined by Emergency Management after hire.
