MOUNTAIN VIEW-LOS ALTOS ADULT SCHOOL 333 MOFFETT BLVD. MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA 94043 JOB TITLE:

High School Diploma Teacher in Young Parents Program (YPP) BASIC FUNCTION: The Young Parents Program Teacher oversees the day to day operation of the young (teen) parents program. The primary responsibility of this position is to teach and mentor district high school students who are pregnant or parenting.

This includes working cooperatively with Adult School independent study staff to help young parents meet academic high school requirements for graduation, as well as interact with other staff that provides additional services such as, counseling, parent education and on-site childcare. The teacher is responsible for engaging, mentoring, and assisting with student goal setting and tracking goal progress. Other duties include: organizing informational speakers and other activities for the class, home visitations, organizing field trips, and creating additional opportunities for student success.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Implement classroom curriculum that supports student academic needs and leads to completion of a high school diploma. Assist students in setting academic and employment goals.

Organize field trip to local community college. Co-perform regular home visitations. Assist program coordinator with Young Parents Program referrals and required paperwork.

Organize field trips to community events and resources. Regularly assess student performance and incorporate technology into classroom on an ongoing basis. Meet weekly with appropriate school staff to communicate student needs and to improve student participation and student learning outcomes.

Communicate regularly and effectively, departmentally and interdepartmentally. Accurately complete all student recordkeeping in a timely manner. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Current pedagogy regarding teen development.

Working knowledge of California High School Content Standards. Working knowledge of online instruction. Strong computer skills in Internet, email, word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, assorted student recordkeeping, and web attendance.

ABILITY TO: Maintain effective communication with members of the program, the adult school at large, district and high school staffs, and with members of the community. Build relationships with school and community partners.

Work effectively as part of a school team. Create structure, discipline in a positive and consistent manner. Lead and mentor at-risk students.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1.A minimum of a B.A. degree, a valid California teaching credential and demonstrated effectiveness in the teacher role is required. 2.CLAD certificate or work experience with K-12 students whose first language is other than English is required. 3.Three letters of professional recommendation are required. 4.Some work experience in alternative education and/or with at-risk teens is required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Classroom environment; subject to interruptions.

Ability to multi-task with a wide range of student abilities. Work on computer combined with one-on-one and small group instruction. AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT:
