Instructor: Math Adult Basic Education (ABE)/Adult Secondary Education (ASE) program

Location: Chattahoochee High School, Alpharetta, GA

Under the supervision of the Lead ABE/ASE Instructor, the teacher provides instruction in the academic area of math for students seeking to earn the (GED).

This job is a part time, non-benefited position in the Adult Education Department that reports to the ABE/ASE program Lead Instructor.

Hours: One night per week
6:00 PM-9:00 PM

Salary $20.00 or $22.00 per hour based on education

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree with 2 years teaching experience in an academic setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree or above, preferably with a focus on education; experience in a state supported Adult Education department. Candidates must have an in-depth knowledge of computational and applied mathematics and possess a strong interest in teaching. Candidates must be proficient in middle through high school level math. The ability to accommodate different learning styles with sensitivity to diverse cultures is required. Preference will be given to individuals who have worked in Adult Education.

Job Functions:

Prepares for and effectively instructs a multi-educational level class and follows a pre-defined curriculum.

The ideal candidate is able to conduct effective classroom discussions by managing groups, asking questions, eliciting and probing responses, summarizing for comprehension and uses a variety of media to enhance and supplement instruction. Must be computer literate and comfortable using a variety of instructional methods and techniques.

In addition, the instructor must maintain class attendance, student evaluation records and required classroom instructional hours and must meet enrollment, level completion & retention goals.

Specific abilities include:

  • Demonstrates numeric functions, equations, and various mathematical principles to students.

  • Helps students think hypothetically, figure out cause and effect, understand mathematical structures, and verify solutions.

  • Understands and clearly conveys ideas from texts or other supplementary materials.

  • Shows proficiency using various forms of technology and infusing them into lessons and instruction.

  • Practices discretion in handling confidential information and sensitive materials.

  • Completes detailed paperwork.

  • Interacts with employees, students and the general public in a tactful and courteous manner.

  • Communicates well in writing and orally.

  • Participates in staff development training sessions as required.
