Requirements for Applying

  • Passed CBEST*ESL teacher training with some adult level language teaching experience

  • Current, valid, and appropriate teaching credential, or eligibility and willingness to obtain preliminary credential (must have recommendation from LEA to CTC before eligible to begin teaching)

Credential needs to be for English, Speech, or a Foreign Language (if Adult Ed or Single Subject). Credential should indicated that the holder is approved to teach in classes "organized primarily for adults".

The ESL program operates primarily out of the main adult education campus in Concord, walking distance to the Concord BART station. The program serves immigrant students with a wide variety of communication improvement goals related to employment, community, and family. Varied proficiency levels are offered. Assignment level to be determined. Class sizes average 18 to 28 students. Morning classes (Monday

  • Thursday, 9:00 - 11:45am) and evening classes (Tuesday

  • Thursday, 6:30 - 9:15 pm).The ESL/Family Literacy program operates primarily out of Mt. Diablo USD elementary school locations. Multi-level classes of 12 to 25 students emphasize the development of literacy habits that strengthen families' foundations for success in the schools and in the community. Morning classes (Monday

  • Thursday, 6:30 - 8:30 pm).Our greatest need is for instructors who can work in the evening either at our main campus or a satellite location.
