The Adult Education Coordinator shall report to the Director of Adult Basic Education. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Communicate effectively in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish.

  • Commitment to learning and adhering to NMJC, NRS, and NMHED Adult Education policies and procedures and to following all college policies and procedures published in the Employee Handbook and current contract.

  • Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, standards, and procedures

  • Assist with new student ESL and HSE interviews, testing, orientations, and registrations in both English and Spanish.

  • Utilize program, student, and federal data to assist with and monitor student testing, skill gains, HSE completions, and design interventions as necessary.

  • Maintain a close working relationship with students, staff, college personnel, and partnering agencies.

  • Provide career exploration to individuals and groups of students in coordination with NMJC, Workforce Development, and Workforce Solutions to assist students with career goals.

  • Refer students to community and campus support as needed. (employment, child care, pantry, college entry, etc.)

  • Assist the Director in promoting and improving the AE program by representing Adult Education in the community, college, and at state and national conferences.

  • Will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends

  • Actively participate in the institutional goals and objectives by attending/completing in-service meetings, NMJC trainings/workshops, orientation, and commencement as scheduled.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

  • Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Experience working with adult students preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Work-related experience assisting and assessing students/clients in academic, workforce, and/or life skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and high professional integrity.

  • Knowledge of career exploration, career testing, resume writing, and referrals with partnering agencies.

  • Proficient use of computers, spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and related software applications.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

  • Establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relationships with an ability to interact with students, faculty, and/or staff in a team environment.

  • Is proactive, demonstrating leadership, critical judgment, and creativity.

  • Demonstrates the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, work in a fast-paced environment with numerous interruptions, and meet deadlines.

  • Maintaining and updating records within student files, program platforms, and federal databases.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

This position is funded by a grant. Continued employment will depend on grant funding. Standard benefits apply.

This is a twelve-month, non-exempt position. Standard benefits apply. The full pay range for this position is $21.73 to $31.66.
