Position: Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructor

Department: Adult Learning Center

Reports to: Director of Adult Learning

SUMMARY:

Instructor prepares adult learners to achieve their personal goals, to prepare for post-secondary education and careers. The instructor is responsible for implementing a student-centered, goal-oriented ABE curriculum that aligns with the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education and the vision of the HMALC Adult Education program.

The Instructor implements HMALC curriculum addressing the ABE content standards in reading, writing, speaking and listening, as well as, financial and digital literacy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement HMALC curriculum addressing the ABE content standards in reading, writing, speaking and listening, as well as, financial and digital literacy.

  • Actively participates in planning to assure students' needs are being effectively addressed.

  • Collect, record and report all necessary information related to students in a timely manner.

  • Use Google Classroom for posting and collecting teaching materials and assignments.

  • Uphold an orderly classroom environment and provide a positive learning experience.

  • Conduct instruction remotely via Google Meet, during school closings.

  • Participate in staff meetings and engage in 20 hours of paid professional development.

  • Contributes productively to the school as a whole.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • Experience with Adult English Language Learners (ELLs) required

  • Experience with the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education

  • Teach Skill that Matter certification preferred

  • Ability to work independently

  • Existing US Work Authorization

  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints

Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00 - 9:00 PM.

Pay Rate: Including prep time and time for student counseling, pays 12 hours per week for 6 hours of class time at $36.01. This position does not include benefits.

Location: Hudson High School - 69 Brigham St Hudson, MA 01749

While performing duties of this job, the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods, and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone.
