Position Summary

Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers, Colorado's largest and most comprehensive provider of cancer care has an exciting opportunity for an Admixture Technician in Lakewood. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information, preparation instructions, and proper physician authorization.

  • Assists with the preparation of compounded sterile products under the supervision of a physician.

  • Under direct supervision, performs compounding duties in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines.

  • Appropriately utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Utilizes aseptic technique during all aspects of the compounding process.

  • Maintains strict adherence to USP 797/800 standards and compliance for the handling of hazardous drugs.

  • Calculates correct dosage volumes, and concentrations required during the compounding process.

  • Performs required calculations for drug dilutions and reconstitution.

  • Utilizes closed-system transfer devices (CSTD's) during all hazardous medication preparation

  • Properly disposes of all hazardous waste generated during the compounding process.

  • Assists in cleaning all controlled environments within the pharmacy area per daily, weekly, and monthly requirements.

  • Prioritizes daily compounding workload to also complete batched preparations and complicated research regimens.

  • Assists in keeping accurate temperature and pressure logs.

  • Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers and expirations.

  • Assists in maintaining accurate drug inventories.

  • Prepares labels. Files and prepares billing. Basic data entry into department automation. Ordering of medication and supplies as directed.

  • Assist with general cleaning, organization and maintenance of the pharmacy space to minimize particulate load and improve overall control.

  • Completes and passes required annual technician competencies.

  • Complies with all departmental and regulatory agency policies and standards of practice.

  • Complies with all state and federal laws regulating the practice.


  • Ability to work as a team player to accomplish optimal patient care by providing superior pharmacy services

  • Great communication skills to interact with fellow pharmacy technicians, nursing, and provider teams

  • Considerable knowledge of:

  • Basic pharmacy practices and procedures

  • Oncology medications, and medical supplies

  • Preparing and handling of hazardous medications

  • USP 797/800 compliance standards

  • Working knowledge of record keeping practices

  • Successful completion of core technician training and subsequent yearly competencies (didactic and hands-on)

  • Skillful in working with attention to detail

  • Familiarity with computers, barcode scanning, and IV workflow technology

  • Sensitivity to patient care issues as they pertain to the practice of pharmacy

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent

Minimum of two years of experience in a USP 797/800 compliant clean room pharmacy with IV compounding skills (including hazardous drugs)

Active Colorado technician license, and in good standing with the state board of pharmacy

PTCB certification required

Completion of an ASHP accredited pharmacy technician program preferred

PTCB sterile compounding certification preferred

All qualified candidates are required to pass a background check and non-federal drug test (which excludes marijuana) post offer of employment and prior to hire..

Assists with and coaches pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers. * Models and delivers a distinctive and delightful customer experience. Customer Experience * Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer issues and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience. * Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy, etc.) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied, etc.). * Develops strong relationships with most valuable customers. Operations * Under the supervision by the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with state, federal, and company policy. Reviews and complies with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. * Performs duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist and Store Manager including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring information is entered correctly, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions. Assists pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining work flow. * Reports, immediately, prescription errors to pharmacist on duty and adheres to Company policies and procedures in relation to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program. * Strictly adheres to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities. * Responsible and accountable for registering all related sales on assigned cash register, collects and handles cash as required. Takes customer to OTC aisle when possible to assist in locating products. * Handles telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians. * Processes (corrects and resubmits) manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner, and performs other clerical duties, as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager. * Leads Pharmacy Department inventory management activities, such as, ordering, unpacking, checking and storing shipment of pharmaceuticals.
