Job Summary:

Arranges for the efficient and orderly admission of inpatients and admission of individuals who have hospital based outpatient testing or procedures. Ensures that the patient information is collected and that patients are aware of hospital policies and procedures. Interviews incoming patient or representatives and enters information required for admission into computer database. Distributes appropriate information to ancillary departments. Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities. Responsible for welcoming the patient into the care delivery setting and initiates the documentation required for the patient's clinical care as well as financial clearance. Ensures accurate patient admission/registration. Works closely with both the financial team and the clinical team to ensure the optimum patient experience, accurate registration, and maximum cash flow and reimbursement. Other duties include: reception, switchboard, cashiering, and outpatient scheduling.

  • 24 bed Rural Community Hospital

  • Trauma Level IV
  • 15 providers Rural Health Clinic

  • 72 bed, high level care, Advanced Assisted Living Facility

  • 42 apartment; low-moderate care level Assisted Living Facility

  • In 2021 we celebrated our 100th year in operation servicing the local members of Newport, WA and the surrounding communities.

Education Background and Experience

Minimum Education:

High School graduate or equivalent.

Required Experience:

  • Excellent customer services, communication, problem solving and critical thinking abilities.

  • Must be able to work extremely well under pressure and handle multiple priorities at the same time.

  • Must be knowledgeable and have experience with computers and general office duties.

  • Must be flexible with regard to work schedule and able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.

  • Must be flexible and able to work in both Admitting and Clinic settings

  • Epic experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

Epic experience.

  • Maintain regulatory requirements.

  • Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated timelines.

  • Demonstrates the ability to adhere to the mission, ethics and goals of the District.

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with patients, guests and staff in a courteous, respectful and helpful manner.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for registering patients for hospital/Clinic services and verifying insurance eligibility. This includes interviewing patients or their representative to obtain or verify personal information already on file.

  • Responsible for obtaining signatures on Conditions of Admission and other paperwork associated with a patient's registration or admission.

  • Provides information to the patient/representative about billing, financial assistance, complaint process, patient rights, HIPAA and visiting hours. Distributes hospital specific literature.

  • Responsible for insuring that a patient's valuables are taken home by a family member or secured in the safe.

  • Responsible for taking insurance co-payments, hospital and clinic bill payments, and record such payments to forward to the Business Office staff.

  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures confidentiality of patients' records.

  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and provides explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.

  • Ensures that documentation meets current standards and policies.

  • Answers the telephone in a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate staff/family member.

  • Willingness and flexibility to work all shifts when needed, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Compensation/How We Care For You:

Successful candidates typically begin between the beginning and midpoint of the compensation range ($17.98 - $21.18/hour) dependent on qualifications/experience and receive compensation increment increases annually.

Full-time benefitted - (60-80 hours per two week pay period).

Part-time benefitted - (40-59 hours per two week pay period).
