Overview

The Admissions Specialist (Recruiter II) serves as the lead for USU Wasatch Region's recruiting efforts under the direct supervision of the Program Coordinator II. This individual will coordinate with the Program Coordinator II, campus administration, student services team and the Statewide System to assist in the development of and carry out the activities of a strong vision and strategic plan that achieves enrollment goals for USU's centers in the Wasatch Region.

This position is in the Wasatch Region at the USU Salt Lake Center.

Responsibilities

Recruiting (80%)The Admissions Specialist (Recruiter II) position has the experience and knowledge to activate the strategic approach for all recruiting efforts in the Wasatch Region. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are required. The individual must have the ability to work independently over a large geographic area as well as collaboratively with others.

  • In collaboration with the Program Coordinator II, initiate, plan, and execute events that generate applications for admission to USU across the region. These include high school visits, high school events, degree open houses, college fairs, corporate relationship development, and community outreach etc. across the Wasatch Region

  • Currently, transfer students are our largest source of prospective students. Growing our efforts and relationships with other institutions, specifically Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), is important for the success of this position.

  • Provide campus tours to prospective students, families, and other visitors, showcasing the facilities, academic buildings, student resources, and other key areas of interest

  • Develop programming for high school and middle/junior high schools as requested

  • Identify networking and community outreach opportunities in addition to recruiting events to distribute delicious Aggie ice cream and campus program materials

  • Coordinate recruiting activities with main campus recruiting and admissions office

  • Serve as a member of and contribute to the statewide admissions specialist's team

  • Attend yearly/monthly training and coordination meetings; participate in professional development activities to stay current on trends and best practices in college admissions and recruitment

  • Respond to communication from prospective students and parents through a variety of methods (texts, email, web forms, Ellucian CRM Recruit, etc.)

  • Identify prospective students and track progress through recruitment funnel

  • Respond to inquiries received through USU's web forms

  • Create automated admissions/recruitment communication based on understanding of campus's student demographic & needs

  • Understand Admissions information and application process (ACT/SAT test scores, test optional admission & scholarships, AP tests, residency, financial aid, etc.); Knowledgeable about resources and assisting the needs of all types of students- freshmen, transfers, returning, home school, post-traditional, undocumented, etc.

  • Under the direction of the Program Coordinator II and campus administration, oversee enrollment accountability measures

  • Complete sections of the annual recruitment plan with historical numbers and goals

  • Track lead generation and conversion into enrollment in conjunction with goals approved by the leadership team

  • Work occasional evenings and weekends

  • Frequent travel

  • Develop and maintain relationships with high school counselors, community college advisors, and other stakeholders to enhance recruitment efforts

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase inclusive recruitment efforts, ensuring outreach to underrepresented student populations with inclusive excellence best practices

  • Travel to off-campus sites to assist with enrollment services, course material, course evaluation and university studies advisement processes

  • Provide promotional materials to schools, students, and parents about the Concurrent Enrollment Program

  • Select student ambassadors; advise and coordinate student ambassador responsibilities

Community Outreach / Collaboration (20%)

  • Create and expand positive liaison relationships within the Salt Lake & Orem communities, businesses and school districts. Additionally, build positive relationships with various USU departments such as academic departments, Admissions, and Marketing.

  • Plan recruiting events in the communities supported by the Wasatch Region and surrounding regions, create appropriate outreach programs for recruiting non-traditional students; follow-up with potential students about attending college; work with individual potential students

  • Represent the Wasatch Region in/at community events

  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure a seamless transition for students from recruitment to enrollment; assist in the development and implementation of retention strategies for enrolled students

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Six years of related experience; OR an associate degree plus four years of related experience; OR a bachelor's degree plus two years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of related experience in university admissions and/or recruitment.

  • Strong customer service orientation, experience, and knowledge with the ability to apply those skills in creating positive relationships with others.

  • Ability to work with various audiences, including prospective students (traditional & post-traditional), parents, counselors, alumni, university community members, and other constituents.

  • Effective presentation and speaking skills, especially with presenting a positive message to groups and one-on-one.

  • Familiarity with Customer Relations Management Software (Recruit, Salesforce), Banner, and other university software systems.
