Potomac State College, part of the West Virginia University system of campuses, is seeking applications for an Admissions Counselor. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Enrollment Services, the incumbent will plan and implement a student recruitment program designed to increase enrollment and enhance recruitment strategies. Primary territory for this position will include northern Virginia, suburban Maryland and Washington, DC and secondary markets as assigned.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Be knowledgeable about the WVU Potomac State College programs, features, facilities, scholarships and financial aid opportunities. Be able to articulate same in a professional consistent manner.
Work with supervisor to develop territorial and programmatic recruitment goals and develop multi-channel communication strategies to achieve these goals. Evaluate the effectiveness of various approaches utilized.
Counsel students on the benefits of higher education and characteristics of academic programs offered by WVU Potomac State College (PSC). Operates a motor vehicle to travel to assigned areas to counsel students on the issues of academic programs, admissions requirements, housing, financial aid and student life.
Interpret admission requirements and procedures outlined in PSC's catalog to students, teachers, counselors and others as required. Assist prospective students and families in understanding financial aid regulations and requirements.
Aggressively follow-up with students, parents and high school counselors from initial contact through enrollment to assure students have every opportunity to enroll.
Coordinate individual and group visits to campus to promote features and benefits of PSC to future students. Coordinate and participate in special programs to increase recruitment within assigned territory. These may include, but are not limited to, receptions, counselor meetings, and open house events.
Manage written, electronic, and tele-counseling outreach efforts with prospective students in recruitment territory. Respond to a variety of email, phone, social media, and written communications from prospective and admitted students.
Develop and maintain good working relationships with high school guidance counselors. Coordinate communication to high school guidance counselors.
Coordinate, participate, and/or manage special programs as assigned to increase recruitment within assigned territory. These may include, but are not limited to, receptions, counselor meetings, and open house events.
Coordinate arrangements for prospective students to visit the campus and conduct campus tours.
Execute special recruiting projects, as needed.
Assist with on-campus recruiting events, including but not limited to open houses, PSC Orientation events, and Student Services Days.
Assist with office duties, including data entry of inquiry cards, processing of applications, and preparation of mailings.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor to insure the efficient operation of the Enrollment Services functions.
Bachelor's degree is required. Job requires a thorough knowledge of a professional discipline as would be acquired through a relevant baccalaureate education program.
Six (6) months previously related and progressively responsible experience in sales, marketing or public relations. (This experience may be gained in the private sector and/or through internships, and/or participation in student organizations at Potomac State or another comparable institution of higher education.)
Ability to relate to the concerns of prospective students and parents and the ability to counsel them on those concerns.
Excellent oral and written communications are required in order to advise and counsel students, parents and high school counselors regarding Potomac State College's admissions requirements and to communicate attributes of programs and services offered.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop constructive relationships with prospective students and their families as well as high school counselors, teachers and principals.
Must exhibit professional behavior and image at all times to best represent the institution to our constituents.
Must exhibit tact and discretion; ability to organize; ability to work long hours and travel extensively while staying fresh and positive; persuasive communication skills.
Must have self-motivation; creativity, positive energetic attitude and the flexibility to work both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to rapidly learn admission requirements, housing, and financial aid requirements and regulations.
Ability to operate motor vehicle.
