OU Office of Admissions & Recruitment (OAR) works to bring in the next generation of Sooners. Our team operates from Norman as well as across the state, nation and world.

We provide support to incoming domestic and international freshman and transfer students as they navigate the college application and decision process. Additionally, we partner with parents, counselors, and communities in providing resources to students interested in higher education. Our goal is to build a vibrant community with limitless potential by recruiting the most academically qualified students with a variety of educational, service, involvement and community experiences.

Responsibilities include:

The admission counselor position manages new undergraduate student recruiting in Oklahoma, designated territory, develops and executes recruiting strategies and activities, and participates in admission application review and processing. This person also interprets admission policies and procedures and responds to all manner of questions regarding admission from prospective students, parents, high school and college counselors, alumni, OU faculty and staff, colleagues and the public.

There is a strong cultural emphasis on customer service. In addition, the Admissions Counselor will work to help high school students prepare for the college admissions process, set-up college tours/visits, provide presentations to students across the region, sign up for Oklahoma's Promise, complete admissions and financial aid applications, assist with the collection of recommendation letters and offer preparation for standardized test. This position also has a focus on early college awareness among students in the Oklahoma area.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree, AND:

  • 12 months of related experience

Equivalency Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 60 months of related experience.

Skills:

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Basic math skills

  • Computer skills, including proficiency in navigating and maintaining databases

  • Some travel required for recruiting

  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information

  • Highly organized and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines

  • Ability to communicate well and build rapport with students, faculty and staff

  • Ability to read and interpret policy as well as State and Federal regulations

  • Customer service skills

Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license to attend events and meetings

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to bend, lift, stoop and carry. Ability to engage in repetitive motions.

  • Standard office environment. Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods.

    May be required to travel. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Requires contact with other departments and university officials. Willingness to work extended and weekend hours during peak periods.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Experiences working in an admissions and recruitment operation

  • Knowledge of OU

  • Will work primarily with students, schools, and communities in South Oklahoma City

  • Preference for those who are fluent in written and spoken Spanish
