Position Summary

Join an Office of Admissions team that is enthusiastic about promoting access to higher education by supporting prospective and incoming Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners. The Admissions Counselor

  • On Campus and International is a member of the recruitment team within the Office of Admissions and contributes to the MSU Denver Mission to provide a high-quality, accessible, enriching education that prepares students for successful careers, post-graduate education and lifelong learning in a multicultural, global, and technological society.

Under the supervision of the Senior International Admissions Specialist, this position shares broad recruitment and enrollment responsibilities with a heavy emphasis on supporting both international and domestic students together with other members of the Office of Admissions. This position is a key player in the recruitment and outreach efforts of the university and provides counseling to all prospective students, applicants and admitted students, especially international, to assist the university in meeting enrollment goals. This role will provide direct customer service and support to students seeking enrollment at MSU Denver in the form of in person meetings, email communication, and phone support.

Duties/Responsibilities

35% - International Admissions and Student Support

  • Manages the International Admissions email inbox for timely response to inquiries.

  • Reviews submitted international materials, maintains application checklist, and communicates regularly with students regarding admission requirements.

  • Manually processes international applications and updates student information in the Student Information System database and Customer Relationship Management system.

  • Fulfills the assigned counselor role for domestic students with non-U.S. academic documents by providing direct, holistic support.

30% - Recruitment & Outreach

  • Conducts directed follow-up activities and communications for targeted prospective students, applicants, and newly admitted students via email, mail, phone, text, and CRM systems, including call campaigns and regular walk-in student appointments.

  • Assists with execution of on-campus recruitment related events such as campus visits and presentations, group tours and bi-institutional events, and open houses. This can entail presenting to large audiences and providing broad support for the events.

  • Helps develop social media content for prospective students, applicants, and new admits.

30% - Counseling

  • Provides admissions counseling and academic planning advice to prospective students, applicants, and newly admitted students via email, telephone, video conferencing, text, mail, and direct in-office communication.

  • Facilitates student application and admission by working closely with various MSU Denver student services programs and academic offices.

  • Exercises professional judgment to interpret University policies to advise prospective and new students about admission procedures, transfer of credits, University policies, the financial aid processes, scholarships, program requirements, registration, tuition classification, and available student support services.

5% - Additional Duties

  • Represents the Office of Admissions on internal and external committees and organizations related to the recruitment and admission of students.

  • Upholds and interprets the standards of ethical practice in university admissions to assist with broad recruitment activities. Assists in preparing surveys and questionnaires distributed by the Office of Admissions to determine our programs and services' effectiveness.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 1-year experience working in higher education, secondary education, or student engagement organization (student employment may satisfy this requirement)

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Strong phone and verbal communication skills

  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in admissions, advising or enrollment services in a higher education setting, or post-graduate college counseling

  • Knowledge of international education systems; experience or interest working with international students and non-U.S. credentials

  • Experience working with a diverse, multicultural student population

  • Experience using a Student Information System database or Customer Relationship Management system

  • Experience giving presentations to large groups

  • Experience providing high quality customer service through face-to-face interactions with clients, customers, or students

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (speaking and writing)

Work Hours

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week, Exempt
  • 8 a.m.
  • 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Evening and weekend work as needed
  • Minimum 4 in person days expected per week.
  • <10% Overnight travel.

Salary for Announcement

The minimum of the pay range for this position is $40,000. We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $47,300 - $48,100. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. Additionally, Student Affairs has committed to tying our salaries to an understanding of a living wage. To that end, we will not pay less than $47,300.

The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
