POSITION SUMMARY The# Admissions Representative obtains all pertinent demographic and insurance information on incoming patients by interviewing patients (or their families) in a courteous and efficient manner.# The Admissions Representative is also responsible for processing the necessary paperwork on all new patients, accepting payment, and serves as a liaison between nursing, ancillary staff, medical staff and the patients and their families.# Admission representatives are able to complete medical and billing forms, answer the telephone and route calls, are responsible for order entry, and some medical documentation within the electronic medical record. They maintain medical records, the urgent care log, and# assure adequate supplies in the admissions department.# When asked the admissions representative serves as a unit coordinator to ensure efficient patient flow.# The admissions representative participates in orientation, continuing education offerings, and annual competencies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Registers all patients and interviews the patient or his/her representative in order to obtain demographic and insurance information. Checks and enters patient information for urgent care into the computer system.# Completes paperwork on all patients (i.e.:# ER, outpatients, outpatient [lab, x-ray, PT, HT], Workers# Compensation). Obtains consent for treatment from primary providers as needed. Is flexible to go to treatment areas to obtain information when a patient is unable to register at the desk or family members are unavailable. Serves as the cashier and assists patients with financial arrangements and/or counseling.# Accepts payments of bills and assists patients with billing questions. Answers the telephone and transfers calls to the individual departments.# In emergencies, may be asked to make calls to the ambulance service, hospitals, doctors, staff, etc. Completes transfer forms as directed. Answers patient questions and concerns regarding billing procedures, insurance coverage, etc., or make referral to the appropriate Patient Account Representative. Answers phone calls and maintains strict patient confidentiality. Reviews, completes and organizes the medical records.
