Admission Counselor

The Admission Counselor reports to a member of the Admission leadership team and is an entry-level position for the Office of Admission. Specific responsibilities include: extensive personal contact with prospective students; identifying and recruiting domestic and international students meeting the desired admission qualifications of the University; working with parents, high school guidance counselors, and alumni; and assisting in application review. The selected candidate will serve as a positive representative of The University of Tulsa, both on and off campus. The Admission Counselor communicates with prospective students through in-person appointments, phone calls, text messaging, mailed postcards and emails, frequently making presentations and attending special events during evenings and weekends. Extensive travel in-and-out of state in designated areas for approximately twelve weeks during the academic year will be required.

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree

• Current driver's license and excellent oral and written communication skills

• Ability to travel to remote locations and to load and transport admissions materials

• Some evening and weekend hours required, especially during the travel season

• Strong cross-cultural interpersonal skills

• Excellent writing and public speaking skills and the ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations

• Must be able to represent the admissions profession positively through a strong, student-centered ethic

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience working in an admission university setting or admission related experience

• Previous experience working in international student services or international recruiting

• Experience coordinating programs

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Physical Demands

• Typing/Keyboarding: Proficiency in typing and using a computer keyboard for extended periods.

• Speaking: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

• Reaching: Ability to reach for items on shelves or in cabinets.

• Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers to operate office equipment, handle files, and perform other tasks.
