The Admission Counselor reports to a member of the Admission leadership team and is an entry-level position for the Office of Admission. Specific responsibilities include: extensive personal contact with prospective students; identifying and recruiting domestic and international students meeting the desired admission qualifications of the University; working with parents, high school guidance counselors, and alumni; and assisting in application review. The selected candidate will serve as a positive representative of The University of Tulsa, both on and off campus. The Admission Counselor communicates with prospective students through in-person appointments, phone calls, text messaging, mailed postcards and emails, frequently making presentations and attending special events during evenings and weekends. Extensive travel in-and-out of state in designated areas for approximately twelve weeks during the academic year will be required.
Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
Current driver's license and excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to travel to remote locations and to load and transport admissions materials
Some evening and weekend hours required, especially during the travel season
Strong cross-cultural interpersonal skills
Excellent writing and public speaking skills and the ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations
Must be able to represent the admissions profession positively through a strong, student-centered ethic
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working in an admission university setting or admission related experience
Previous experience working in international student services or international recruiting
Experience coordinating programs
Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Physical Demands
Typing/Keyboarding: Proficiency in typing and using a computer keyboard for extended periods.
Speaking: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Reaching: Ability to reach for items on shelves or in cabinets.
Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and fingers to operate office equipment, handle files, and perform other tasks.
