COMPENSATION RANGE: 50,000.00 - 51,500.00 USD per year

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Recruitment & Outreach, the Admission Counselor will serve as a key member of the Office of Admissions recruitment team. The purpose of this position is to serve as a primary line of undergraduate recruitment and marketing efforts, including territory management and participating in recruitment activities on-and-off campus, including recruitment events, college fairs, and community events. This position will be charged with the responsibility of promoting the university, generating interest from prospective students, coaching students through critical enrollment steps, and developing relationships and partnerships. Recruitment and engagement with a broad constituency will occur regularly, this will include: middle school, high school and transfer student populations; families/parents of prospective students; high school and community college advisors and counselors; alumni; college access programs; and community based organizations.

Job Duties:

Essential

  • 50 % Freshmen and Transfer Territory Recruitment: Comprehensive and strategic management of an individually assigned recruitment territory in Colorado and out-of-state. This will require:
  • Recruitment travel (in and out of state) representing UNC at college fairs; school-sponsored functions; high school/community college site visits; individual appointments/group meetings; and community/civic events.

  • Fostering and developing relationships with assigned high schools, community organizations, or other recruitment sources

  • Utilizing a broad-base of institutional knowledge in order to effectively market and recruit a successful, motivated, and diverse pool of applicants

  • Counseling students and support people about admission criteria and other critical factors in the educational decision process

  • Delivering presentations and information sessions to students, families, community members, and campus constituents

  • Maintaining accurate records on all recruitment activities, including compiling and reporting on recruitment initatives and data

  • Identifying and engage with organizations and key partners who serve prospective student populations

  • Managing a schedule that regularly involves evening and weekend work

  • A valid driver's license

Essential

  • 30 % Freshmen and Transfer Student Yield Management: Execution of data-driven outreach targeted at guiding students through critical enrollment steps that are intended to meet enrollment goals. This will require:
  • Utilizing coaching and personalized relationship management techniques through multiple channels, including: high school/community college site visits; individual appointments/group meetings; receptions/banquets; email, phone, and text campaigns; and working with high school/community college administrators

  • Reviewing applications and rendering admissions decisions on domestic undergraduate applications

  • Understanding Colorado Department of Higher Education and institutional policy in order to counsel and make admissions decisions that fall within required guidelines

  • Counseling students through tuition costs, available financial aid and preliminary aid awards, and anticipated cost of attendance

  • Engaging in innovative and intentional territory management activites including the development of an individualized territory yield plan each year

  • Monitoring application progress and auditing student records to ensure completion of application materials

Essential

  • 10% Supporting Programs and Events: Participate in the direction, coordination and implementation of the following recruitment activities:
  • Large campus visit days for prospective, applicant, and admitted students

  • Off-campus events held locally, regionally, or nationally

  • Daily visit operations including daily campus tours, academic information sessions, group tours

  • Public events and programs held within local community

  • These events can occur during working hours, nights, weekends, or holidays

Essential

  • 10% Other Responsibilities: Other duties and responsibilities will be assigned as appropriate and may include:
  • Providing support in planning and programming for various recruitment activities and initiatives,

  • Providing support for day-to-day operations as part of the Office of Admissions

  • Serving as a liason to an assigned college or university office

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

A Bachelor's degree is required.

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • One year of demonstrated leadership and or professional experience working with high school or college students (experience gained while working as a college student will be considered.)

  • One year of experience working in a complex customer service oriented environment

  • Demonstrated experience successfully delivering presentations to groups of various sizes

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate articulately and effectively

  • Proven ability to set work priorities, manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while meeting tgoals and deadlines

  • Strong interpersonal skills and critical thinking abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently

  • Enthusiasm for working with students and representing the University of Northern Colorado

  • Personal or professional commitment to diversity as demonstrated by persistent effort, active planning, allocation of resources and/or accountability for diversity outcome

  • Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license by the employment start date, and mjust be available to regularly work night and weekend hours

Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Previous professional admissions or college counseling experience

  • Experience in working with and serving the needs of underrepresented communities

  • Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish

Certification/Registration/Licensing:

Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license by the employment start date.

Ability:

Computer skills are required.
