General Summary of Position: # Under the direction of the Regional Chief of the MedStar Breast Health Program and Vice President, Administration of the MedStar Washington Integrated Surgery Service, plans, directs, manages and coordinates activities for the MedStar Breast Health Program.# These functions are performed in accordance all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital#s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.



Qualifications:


B.A/B.S. in healthcare related field; Masters Degree in Health Care, Business Administration or Nursing Administration preferred. At least three to five years of progressively responsible practice administration experience preferably in an ambulatory care setting. Knowledge of all practice areas including staffing, insurance, patient service, financial management, regulatory and daily operations. Ability to communicate effectively, to identify issues, and to work toward solutions that will ensure efficient practice operation. The position requires a high level of advocacy and problem solving ability.# The skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision making, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public, the ability to plan, prioritize, organize and direct the work of others and to communicate clearly are all requirements of this position. Sophisticated knowledge of inpatient and outpatient hospital and physician operations with particular emphasis in area of specialty.

  • Job Summary

  • Under the direction of the Regional Chief of Breast Surgery and Regional Vice President, Surgical Services, MedStar Health, plans, directs, manages and coordinates activities for the Washington Region Breast Surgery program. Coordinates and manages strategic business planning, program development, and marketing. Identifies and addresses programmatic and planning issues relative to breast surgery and develops potential physician referrals. These functions are performed in accordance all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO AN APPROPRIATE COMBINATION OF EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE.


  • Education/Training

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. BS degree in nursing. Masters degree in nursing preferred.


  • Experience

  • Three to five years of progressively more responsible job related experience in clinical management of a substantial clinical business operation which would confirm the ability to perform the position.


  • License/Certification/Registration

  • Current D.C. licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse. Current certification in BCLS.

  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the regional Chief of Breast Surgery and regional Vice President, Surgical Services, plans, organizes, and directs the clinical programs and operations of the regional breast surgery program.

  • Ensures that program objectives are clearly and concisely documented, and are congruent with MedStar strategic and operational goals for the Washington region. Establishes operational priorities and activities to facilitate and support program success. Ensures coordination of operational priorities and activities with hospital departments at WHC, GUH, MGH, and SMH.

  • Utilizes approaches and strategies that support quality patient care and optimize outcomes in an interdisciplinary care environment. Supports a patient first culture that fosters a high level of patient satisfaction as demonstrated by outcomes data.

  • Assists the management team in utilizing information to develop, implement and managed a budget that supports organizational objectives, patients care standards and quality of care. Supports Dept of Surgery Administrator by contributing to revenue, staffing, operating and capital budgeting processes.

  • Works with the Regional Service line chief and VP Surgical Services to develop, implement, and evaluate departmental goals that support the strategic and operating plans.

  • Monitors and analyzes departmental performance data and identifies and participates in performance improvement activities as delegated by the Regional Service Chief and VP.

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of business and marketing plans for areas of responsibility. Coordinates marketing initiatives and promotes services to private medical and surgical practices.

  • Maintains appropriate communications within and between various functional units. Serves as liaison to external groups, including faculty and community-based physicians. Ensures responsive patient services and relations.

  • Examines possibilities for service line growth by identifying opportunities for partnerships and strategic alliances to enhance market position and organizational effectiveness.

  • Works collaboratively with others to organize, initiate, and coordinate continuous quality improvement activities within areas of responsibility.

  • Prepares and/or directs preparation of clinical policies and procedures for areas of responsibility.

  • Maintains current knowledge of clinical, technological, and business developments and communicates relevant information to VP and Regional Chief of Service.

  • Maintains competency in all electronic systems required for job functioning and contributes to improvements in utility of systems used for patient care.
