This position is located in Willows, CA.

This position is located on a Forest Service unit and serves as the Fire and Aviation Administrative Support Assistant. The incumbent is responsible for administrative support for the fire organization, property and procurement management, database management for both fire and fuels management, and budget services.

Responsibilities

  • Duties are listed at full performance level:

  • Serves as the administrative focal point for training, suppression, prevention, fuels, human resources coordination, budget assistance and general administrative support work.

  • Tracks qualification and certification training using the appropriate database.

  • Maintains red card printout and folder.

  • Coordinates Health Screening Questionnaire (HSQ) and pack test.

  • Assists with fire refresher classes and duty officer binder updates.

  • Maintains records for various permits.

  • Assists with various databases, contract administration report, and budget support.

  • Tracks personnel requests, updates to organizational charts, phone lists, emergency contact information and travel voucher input for employees.

  • Provides budget assistance, fleet tracking and mileage input, cell phone coordination, credit card assistance, Fire Management Plan update and coordination, and militia support.

  • Maintains local and state cooperative agreements and coordinate human resources for fire management.

  • Maintains compliance with regulatory, policy, and departmental directives.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-6 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level; OR one full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (for example

  • Business Management, Accounting, Business Marketing, Public Administration); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Examples of specialized experience are: Providing support and assistance processing a wide variety of requisitions; reconciling purchases and maintaining files in accordance with Federal regulations and agency directives; processing incoming and outgoing mail; establishing and maintaining the unit's files, accountable property inventories, records, etc. (hardcopy and/or electronic format); and using automated software to produces reports, correspondence and other written documents in draft form.

  • Business Management, Accounting, Business Marketing, Public Administration); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Examples of specialized experience are: Carrying out new systems or administrative processes to meet unit needs; receiving and reviewing all formal ingoing/outgoing correspondence for proper format, grammar, punctuation, etc.; using automated databases and software to produce reports and record information; establishing and maintaining manual and electronic records and filing systems; and producing written documentation, reports, memos, etc., in final format.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
