Summary

The primary purpose of these positions is to serve as the administrative technical point of contact. Incumbent accomplishes and provides advice on a wide variety of technical and administration duties on a unit in Region 3.

  • Disseminate administrative information to employees.

  • Accept, examine, evaluate, route, and maintain incoming communication, administrative email, faxes, and routine and sensitive correspondence.

  • Operate a personal computer, printer, scanner, peripheral, word processing, spreadsheet and/or presentation software (e.g., Excel, Microsoft Word, Power Point, Adobe).

  • Establish, maintain and revise the office filing system.

  • Maintain awareness of and communicate applicable laws, regulations, directives, and policies to unit personnel for administrative work.

  • Process financial, procurement, property, personnel, and other administrative instruments for the unit.

  • Assist in developing and implementing solutions for administrative problems within the unit and the larger administrative program.

  • Develop, recommend, and implement administrative policies, plans, and procedures to provide effective solutions.

  • Perform day-to-day technical and administrative work for the unit.

  • Examine assigned outgoing communication for procedural and grammatical accuracy, correct attachments, dates, signature, addresses, and destinations.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-05: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: received visitors; processed incoming and outgoing correspondence; and maintained files and records. OR Bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school; OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

For the GS-06: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Provided support and assistance processing a wide variety of requisitions; reconciled purchases and maintained files in accordance with regulations and agency directives; processed incoming and outgoing mail; established and maintained files, accountable property inventories and other records (hardcopy and/or electronic format); and used automated software to produces reports, correspondence and other written documents in draft form. OR one full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (for example - business administration, business management); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

For the GS-07: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Carried out a variety of administrative and support processes to meet unit needs; received and reviewed all formal ingoing/outgoing correspondence for proper format, grammar, punctuation, etc.; used automated databases and software to produce reports and record information; established and maintained manual and electronic records and filing systems; and produced written documentation, reports, memos, etc in final format. OR one full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (for example - business administration, business management); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This experience must be documented with specific dates in the online application or resume.
